COVENANTS INITIATED BY GOD TO BIND THEM
Jesus Christ is going to fulfill all of the covenants of the Old Testament, all of
the promises that God has given to the patriarchs and to the prophets and
the kings and the priests. He is going to bring it all to pass and he is going to
do it in his own body and blood in the new covenant that he establishes
through his sacrifice. CCC 707,CCC604

9. THE COVENANTS: GOD’S INITIATIVE
In Hebrew, their is no word for family. Covenant is a family bond,
a sacred family bond between two formerly unrelated persons.
Cf. Songs of Solomon 6:3“ I am yours and you are mine”, Psalm 104-105
Contract - exchange of property, goods and services
The covenants are the means by which HE reunites and reconciles
us unto Himself. Marriage & Adoption is a covenant
Flesh, blood and a common name unites the family members.
“ We say blood is thicker than water”

It seals with the words “by God”, “ in God’s name”, or “ so help me God”
You became an active partner in the transaction. Those who swear place not their own
honor at risk but Gods honor.
A false oath calls on God to be a witness to a lie CCC 2151
SACRIFICE signified the sealing of the covenant Implied something truly ominous
If I am unfaithful to my covenant oath, may I suffer the same fate as this mutilated beast
Circumcision-an end to a family’s line of descendants
MEAL Bonding-Exodus 24:11 in parallel to Mt 26:28 and 1 Cor 5:7 Christ our Passover has been sacrificed, let us keep the feast
