Diani Bunici meets the Irish
teen that stole the heart of Jessica Biel
Cutie!
Big brown eyes, a
mop of chestnut
coloured hair, a soft
charming Irish accent and a
wicked sense of humour to boot;
Conor Hamilton is the Irish
buachaill who melted Jessica
Biel’s heart.
Now JT – if you’re reading
this, no need to jump on the
first flight to Europe, for Conor
is a 14-year-old TV host on
RTÉ2’s, elev8. Yes, you can now
wipe away those beads of sweat!
Every red carpet has its
own unique charm, whether
it’s Beyoncé announcing her
pregnancy at the MTV Video
Music Awards, Lady Gaga making
a unique entrance in an egg at
the Grammys or Sacha Baron
Cohens’ The Dictator spilling
ashes over Ryan Seacrest at the
Oscars...remember that?
While Total Recall’s European
premiere at Dublin’s Savoy
Theatre might have created less
of an international media stir,
it did earn a Dublin teen the
title of “best interviewer on the
carpet”, to quote Jessica Biel.
Justin Timberlake’s fiancé
was so impressed with the
youngster’s line of questioning,
she took to Twitter to announce
her admiration to the world
– “Best interviewer on the
carpet! What a gentleman,
Conor Hamilton of elev8 on RTÉ!
#totalrecall”
Conor doesn’t have a Twitter
account but if he did, you can
bet he’s #chuffed.
“I thought it would only
come up on four or five people’s
profiles, but now that I know
it’s hundreds of thousands I
think it’s pretty cool that I’m
all over the world. I’m gonna
have to perfect my autograph,”
he said.
The Dublin teen wasn’t
the only leading man
to grace the red carpet
as Colin Farrell flew
into town with a few
Hollywood mates in tow
– Justin Timerlake’s soon-to-be-
wifey, director Len Wiseman and
screen siren Kate Beckinsale.
Walking the carpet with his
proud mum Rita, the In Bruges
star was delighted to be back
on home turf. “It’s an absolute
blessing to be able to come
back and have this night with
so many family and so many
friends. It feels
lovely, actually.
This place is
somewhere that has
shaped and formed
whatever man I am
and was and have
become, so to be
able to come back
as often as I can is
important.“
Wearing a dapper
Dolce & Gabbana
suit, Colin left a
lasting impression
on the hundreds
of loyal fans who
queued to catch
a glimpse of their
favourite Irish
expat. But he
wasn’t the only one
bringing a touch
of old-school glamour to town
with both Jessica and Kate
donning their best glad rags; a
champagne Zac Posen brocade
number for Biel and a fuschia
pink Donna Karan gúna for
Beckinsale.
The girls might have upped
their style stakes for the Irish
outing, but in the movie the
look is somewhat less polished
and more rough and tumble
as plenty of butt-kicking
is in store throughout the
118 minute sci-fi adventure that
is Total Recall.
Embracing her tough-as-nails
character, Jessica revelled in
playing Colin Farrell’s feisty
love interest. “It’s so nice to
have a role that’s equal in
physical ability to the male
roles in a movie. It was a real
treat,” she said.
And what of Kate? Did she
have any qualms over
throwing punches at her
female co-star? “I rather
enjoyed it, actually, it
was fun! It was nice to
hit another girl,” she
laughed. That would be
a ‘no’ then... after all,
playing a baddie is...
“really good fun. It’s
slightly lonely though,
because you’re always at
one end of the corridor
while everyone else is at
the other end and you’re
shooting at them!”
Still, not a bad job
all the same and Colin
Farrell can agree. Tough
for some isn’t it? “I
know, another shabby
day at the office,” he
joked. U
