4 Information on the Contents and Results Gained
4.1 Mode of study: Full time
4.2 Programme requirements:
Graduates will have undertaken a mix of academic and industry-focused learning with a core knowledge base
of business management. This is complemented by competencies in a range of sporting disciplines, which
meet the needs of business professionals within the sports industry. Graduates will have good academic skills
which can be applied to their chosen career or lead them into further academic study.
The Sports Business Management graduate will have learned the basic principles and methods of business
management and associated sports disciplines. They will be able to identify the roles and range of skills
utilised by managers in sport organisations including models, frameworks, tasks and roles of management.
They will have an understanding of the goals and operations of agencies in the national sport industry as
well as knowledge of the legal, ethical and environmental principles and issues affecting sports management
practices.
Graduates will be able to implement business planning and evaluation of resources within communities
and both state and national organizations. They will also be aware of management of human, financial and
physical resources involved in the service delivery of sport opportunities and experiences.
They will be able to identify the socioeconomic and political determinants of sport participation and promote
sport development to industry standards in accordance with the national sport delivery system. Graduates will
also have a good working knowledge of the processes of sport marketing for the development of marketing
and sponsorship plans for sport organisations and events.
Graduates will have developed problem solving and decision making skills to support investigations in the field
of sports business. They will be able to use data, think reflectively and solve problems to present a balanced
argument. The graduate will be able to investigate aspects of sports business management based on a
systematic process, which highlights both implications and recommendations for developing current, and future
sports business management.
The graduate of this degree will be able to demonstrate personal leadership and to be able to work well as part
of a team. They will have demonstrated that they hold skills in prioritisation of workload and organisation of
themselves and others – including time management.
Graduates will also be able to manage information effectively for example; library resources and the use of
information technology in the workplace.
Graduates may take up operational management roles within the sports sector. Alternative careers include
managing sport development programmes, services and facilities.

40% to less than 50% Third Class
Unclassified Honours Degrees can also be awarded (Pass only) in order to meet professional body
requirements.
Integrated Masters Awards are awarded a Merit at an average mark of 60% across a specified number of
credits.
All other Awards of the university are awarded a distinction at an average mark of 70% across a specified
number of credits. Foundation degrees are awarded a Merit at an average mark of 55% to less than 70%
across a specified number of credits.

The UWE Bristol Futures Award recognises the range of activities that students engage with mainly outside the
curriculum, whilst studying at UWE, which help them to develop a wide range of skills. Those activities might
include practical work experience, leadership or enterprise skills, or global and cultural awareness, all of which
enhance students' personal development and prepare them for employment once they graduate. The Award
requires students to demonstrate their ability to reflect on their learning and development from those activities
through submission of a portfolio. Some of the activities that students use towards the Award may also appear

A process based series of activities that focus on personal and group development across all academic
programmes to achieve:
Level 1: awareness and development of personal attributes and study skills
Level 2: exploration of future options, with a focus on employability skills development and gaining experience
through work placements or volunteering
Level 3: completion of major final work, reflecting on achievements and the progression of the student to
employment or further study

This is complemented by competencies in a range of sporting disciplines, which meet the needs of business professionals within the sports industry. Graduates will have good academic skills which can be applied to their chosen career or lead them into further academic study. The Sports Business Management graduate will have learned the basic principles and methods of business management and associated sports disciplines. They will be able to identify the roles and range of skills utilised by managers in sport organisations including models, frameworks, tasks and roles of management. They will have an understanding of the goals and operations of agencies in the national sport industry as well as knowledge of the legal, ethical and environmental principles and issues affecting sports management practices. Graduates will be able to implement business planning and evaluation of resources within communities and both state and national organizations. They will also be aware of management of human, financial and physical resources involved in the service delivery of sport opportunities and experiences. They will be able to identify the socioeconomic and political determinants of sport participation and promote sport development to industry standards in accordance with the national sport delivery system. Graduates will also have a good working knowledge of the processes of sport marketing for the development of marketing and sponsorship plans for sport organisations and events.
