Assisting the Communications Manager and team by supporting our communications media, principally by sub-editing and co-ordinating our staff magazine, NewsReel. I
was responsible for design, illustration and production of this until these roles shifted to another location in August last year. I was responsible for assisting in maintaining
and developing the staff Intranet, communicating key messages to employees. I also researched, analysed and reported our digital media reach, eg. online newspapers,
Facebook and Twitter. I was granted Early Retirement from 31st March under the Service’s voluntary severance scheme.

Leading a team of six in printing, multimedia, photography, design and CAD, I was responsible for maintaining Corporate Communications' service delivery to all
departments of the organisation, and acting as line-manager to my team. I was responsible for sub-editing, designing and production of our staff magazine, Message, and
supporting our Corporate Communications Manager and her staff in delivering a comprehensive creative communications service in support of the Service’s Mission, Aims
and Objectives. Lothian and Borders was absorbed into the new single Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in April 2013 and for the following three months I was awaiting
'job-matching', starting my most recent post in June.

(Apart from work as an employee at HMSO, South Gyle, Edinburgh, January - August 1992) I ran my own Graphic Design business, first in Birmingham, then in Edinburgh,
having moved here in 1990. I worked chiefly from home and provided a communication, design and print service to a variety of public and private sector clients. Decided to leave
freelancing when I was offered a salaried post at Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade, starting February 1993.

Member of Reid Memorial Church of Scotland (where I represent Christian Aid on its World Church Committee, design its magazine, and teach at its children’s Sunday Club).
Member of Friends of the Earth Scotland. I am a keen guitar player and as ‘Boy:48’ I have written, recorded and published more than seventy songs on SoundCloud.com.
