3. Foreshadowing When Langston Bennett was younger he refused to whip Lucius even though his father told him to, and later on in the book decades later he kills Lucius.
4. Conflict The struggle in The First Assassin is the safety of the president and the implications on the country if Lincoln is assassinated.
5. Theme The theme of this book is that one moment can change everything. For example what if Mazorca wasn’t killed and he killed Lincoln that would change everything.
6. Tone The tone set by Mazorca was a very serious, tense one that made every conversation with him very serious, with no laughter, and awkward.
