Jack accidentally spreads a genetic virus and becomes immune. As the world collapses, he struggles with his sanity as his friends Bruce and Sarah help him search for clues. Jack discovers the monsters are actually infected humans. In the climax, Jack must choose whether to follow Bruce's aggressive nature or Sarah's compassion in how to deal with the infected. The player's choices throughout the game determine which of two endings they receive.

A note on Monsters
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that

The word “monster” is used as a placeholder for
the next evolutionary step humanity takes. In the
game we will take pains to not describe it, so it will
be your own fear that motivates you.

17. During his search the Police show up at the players home and take
him to the police station, that night something strange happens at
the station and the player must escape. If caught by the monsters it
must be repeated.

18. The third morning the player is searching for clues in a world that is
going crazy, the few townspeople that are left are preparing to leave.

19. The nest day the player finds that everyone is gone, the player is
directed to the hospital by SARAH, the player searches the hospital
for clues on what is going on. Failable.
Search for clues, interact with thoughts and objects, avoid monsters
Learns that most people were in the hospital yesterday with some
sort of sickness
Learns that JACK, BRUCE, and SARAH are the last people in town
JACK could not find any mention of his family in the hospital, with
everyone gone its tough to stay positive.
Select a thought mechanic is very prominent here, becoming “crazy
man thoughts” as the mission progresses.

20. Player is chased by a monster like those at the police station. Failable.

21. This mission is a longer one, spanning several game days, it is mostly
searching for clues, hiding and dealing with JACK’s thoughts. Can be
failed.

Find out more about what is happening, and decide what to do about
the monster following you.
Learns that the monsters are actively searching for you now.
