JSC Ski Club Rail Jam Recap Promotes Vermont Peanut Butter
1. JSC Ski & Snowboard Club Fall Rail Jam Recap
This was a great opportunity for me to learn valuable skills in the fields of marketing and
advertising while increasing brand awareness for Vermont Peanut Butter.
Goals Accomplished:
I set up the banner in a visible spot where everybody attending could see and where
photographers could get a shot of it in the background of riders.
All the stickers I had were handed out to spectators, participants, judges for the
competition, photographers, Jay Peak marketing representative, Smugglers’ Notch
marketing representative, and I put them in the prize packs for first place, best trick, and
best fall.
I took a couple photos of spectators and participants holding up stickers.
A few people at the event either didn’t know or knew only a little about VT PB. One
person asked me if it was my company that I started, so I made sure that everybody I
talked to left the event that night knowing some new info. This involved talking to a few
spectators, participants from schools such as Lyndon State College, and the marketing
representatives from Jay Peak and Smugglers’ Notch.
On 10/28/14 at about 12:30pm there was 4,225 likes on the Vermont Peanut Butter
Facebook page. As of 12:30 on 10/30/14 there is now 4,237 likes. I know a good
majority of these like have come from the Facebook post I made on the event page and
the JSC Ski & Snowboard club page announcing a chance to get free Vermont Peanut
Butter stickers at the rail jam.
The event turned out being a hit. The set up consisted of a two level scaffolding drop in
ramp with rails donated by Jay Peak and snow trucked in from Waterbury and Essex. Saga
Outerwear donated a couple jackets and mittens, a few local businesses donated gift certificates,
and not to forget the VT PB stickers. A good sized crowd of about 50 people were there either
spectating or participating in the event as well as a few photographers.
The biggest problems I faced along the way were picking the best spot to set up the banner
and finding the best photo opportunities that included the stickers. Once I realized the banner
was too wide for the scaffolding and too tall for the wooden fencing stakes, I custom rigged three
sets of two stakes screwed together. Right before the event started at 5:30 I got the banner to
stand up throughout the night. As the event went on I came up with more creative ideas to give
out stickers until they were all gone.
