Scholar-Athlete of the Month
November 2014
Daniel Goldberg is November’s CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. The midfielder from Baruch made a name for himself in CUNYAC tournament this season while maintaining a strong GPA in a tough program.
“It’s obviously a great honor to be both recognized academically and athletically,” said Goldberg. “I think it’s a great award that goes out to some of the smartest and most athletic students within CUNY, so, like I said, it is a great honor.”
Goldberg has achieved a 3.662 GPA with a Finance & Investments major at Baruch. There, the junior has become active in the Bearcat community as he became a member of three honor societies (Phi Eta Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, and Golden Key International Honors Society) while engaging in the Wall Street Club. After graduating, he aspires to start and run his own private equity firm.
On the field, the Connecticut native has been a member of a strong Baruch squad over the last three seasons. Playing the game since he was four, the hardworking midfielder has been a CUNYAC Champion and NCAA Tournament participant in all three of his seasons. Over the last two seasons, he has been one of Baruch’s top set-up men as he tied for 4th on the team last season with four before leading the team this season with seven.
In the month of November, he competed in three important games during Baruch’s men’s soccer season, two CUNYAC tournament games and the first round of the NCAA Tournament. In the CUNYAC Semifinal, Baruch came in as the underdog with the #4 seed going up against the top-seeded College of Staten Island but the experienced team advanced with a 2-0 victory that began with an assist off the foot of Goldberg. He followed up with an assist in the championship final to give the Bearcats a 1-0 victory and the title. The midfielder would be named CUNYAC Tournament MVP with five assists on six Baruch goals throughout the tournament.
Look out for Goldberg in his senior year continuing to succeed in the classroom and on the field next season.
