Mason Communications Students Join Cybersecurity Effort
on Campus
(Fairfax, Va. – February 20, 2016) – George Mason University communication
majors are participating in a cybersecurity effort on campus. The students will work for
Center of Assurance Research and Engineering (CARE) and complete a portfolio of
research, writing and visual materials they have created to meet the clients needs.
Dana Faddoul, a junior in communication, will work for CARE and provide her client
with a portfolio of research, writing and visual materials.
“I’m so excited I received this opportunity to work for CARE. It will expand my
horizons and allow me to sharpen my innovative skills,” Faddoul said.
“Dana has excellent leadership skills,” said Katherine Rowan, the course instructor.
“She works hard in class, assists other students and communicates effectively with class
clients.”
CARE takes a multidisciplinary approach to provide innovative cyber security
solutions. The center helps to build awareness among regional and national high-tech
industry executives, partner with other companies on research funded by the government
agency and create an advisory board for further outreach to industry connections.
“I value the fresh perspective and new ideas that students offer to challenge my
organization’s traditional ways of communicating,” said Mary Crowson, communications
officer for CARE. “Also, these students are whiz kids with technology; they are updating me
on the latest work-smarter tools. And I am grateful for the additional manpower. The team
is contributing significantly to my office’s output.”
