3. Rationale for the Initiative
• Currently certification of elimination of the disease is done only at national
level, by WHO
• Targeted initiatives required at State & District levels for disease
elimination
• Different epidemiological scenario across country demands a differential
strategy to reach to the elimination targets & sub-national measurements
• Incentivizing and rewarding well performing states & districts:
• Achieving target that are within their control and capacity,
• Motivation to prioritize and undertake implementation of programme
to achieve milestones towards TB Free district
• Generates sense of healthy competition among States/Districts.
