Given the kind of climate here in the UK, it’s not
surprising that many of the cases we deal with
involve damp or moisture in one way or another, and
this is our top four most often treated:
3. A problem mostly associated with older properties, rising damp
can be caused by a failing damp-proof course, poorly
maintained brickwork or broken guttering. Making sure these
three are well maintained will provide protection against the
incursion of water. If you have basement space under your
house it will require tanking to keep the damp away – why not
ask about our cellar conversion service, available for Worcester
and the midlands.
Rising and penetrating damp
4. In milder form this can just be a bit of a nuisance, but it
canreally get out of controlwhen certain atmospheric
conditions apply, ruining household interiors, possessions and
damaging health. If you have water condensing on your
windows and walls, don’t wait to get it sorted – we can deal
with all kinds of damp, including condensation, and we cover
Malvern and the surrounding area.
Airborne moisture
5. These are both actually fungal infections that need swift action
to avoid serious damage to the fabric of your home. Wet rot is
an easier culprit with localised fungal blooms, it only flourishes
where wood, brick, or plaster are actually wet. Dry rot presents
a bigger problem – if left to spread it can leave the site of
moisture and creep into the wood and brick structure of your
property, making it difficult and costly to eliminate.
Wet rot and Dry rot
6. This is a fairly common pest that can be treated at the site of
the infection. Wood applications can then ensure that other
timber in the home is not susceptible to attack. Look out for
regular shaped little holes in your wood work –and check for
timber residue beneath the boring site, this will indicate alive
infestation.
