PROFILE
Chuck Keenan entered his 12th season as the head coach of the men's tennis team at the
Savannah College of Art and Design. Keenan also began his 9th season as the head coach of
the women's program.
Keenan, who was recognized as the college's Frances Wong Coach of the Year in 2008, led the
women’s tennis team to their 4th consecutive conference title in 2010 as the Bees won The Sun
Conference championship and advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the 6th
consecutive season. The four-time conference and two-time NAIA Region XIV Women's Tennis
Coach of the Year led the Bees to a ranking as high as No. 8 in the NAIA with an 11-4 record.
SCAD advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2007 national tournament for the first time in the
program’s history as the Bees went 13-5 and Keenan was named the Wilson/Intercollegiate
Tennis Association's NAIA National Coach of the Year.
The men’s team advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the third time in the
program’s history in 2009 . The Bees, who were ranked as high as No. 7 in the NAIA, finished in
second place in The Sun, advanced to the national quarterfinals for the second consecutive
year.
SCAD finished the 2008 season at 11-8. The Bees also finished in second place in the Florida
Sun and at the NAIA Region XIV Tournament in 2007 as they recorded a 9-5 mark.
In 2006, the women’s team were ranked No. 12 in the NAIA as they went 13-6 and captured
their first-ever conference title. The men's team was ranked nationally most of the year and
finished the campaign with a 6-8 ledger.
The women's team established a college-record for wins in 2005 as the Bees went 16-5 and
finished the season ranked 10th. The men narrowly missed qualifying for the national
tournament in 2005 as the Bees were 8-9 overall and ranked 19th in the nation.
Keenan led the men's team to a 9-9 record in its first season of NAIA competition in 2004. The
Bees finished the season ranked 19th in the final NAIA Top 25 Rating and advanced to the
semifinals of the NAIA Region XIV Tournament. The women's team also qualified for the NAIA
Region XIV Tournament and finished 3-9.
Off the court, both teams have been recognized for their work in the classroom. Both teams
have been named Scholar Teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and the NAIA four
times. The Bees have had 28 student-athletes over the past four seasons named Scholar-
Athletes by the ITA, while has had 20 student-athletes named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-
Athlete Teams during the same time.
Keenan led the men's team to the most successful season in the history of the program in
2003, with the Bees going 14-2 (.875 winning percentage) and ranked eighth in the NCAA
Division III Atlantic South region. Keenan also helped the Bees to a college-record 16 wins
during the 2001 season as he was recognized as the college's Coach of the Year.
Keenan led the women's team to their second most wins in the history of the program in 2003
as the Bees went 8-6 in 2003 and finished ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division III Atlantic South
region.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at SCAD, Keenan was the head men's and women's coach for
four seasons at his alma mater, the Pennsylvania State University/The Behrend College in Erie,
Pa. While at Behrend, he led the women's tennis team to its first-ever Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference Championship and was named the AMCC Coach of the Year in 1997.
Keenan is a Professional Tennis Registry pro and is a United States Racquet Stringers
Association Master Racquet Technician.
Keenan has two sons, Charlie (7) and Noah (5).
