Announcement for Selwyn - LaPerle
- 1. Dear Selwyn House Community:
I am delighted to announce that Mr. Chris LaPerle is joining the Selwyn House faculty as Director of Hockey Operations &
Development and Senior Hockey Coach. He will oversee all aspects of the Gryphon’s hockey program, from supporting all
teams, to skill and player development, to coaching the juvenile team, along with Director of Athletics and Coach Michael
Maurovich.
Coach LaPerle comes to us as a former McGill Redmen Hockey assistant coach and video coordinator, specialized in game
analysis. In his first two seasons with the Redmen, the team reached, for the first time in the program’s history, the gold medal
game of the CIS national championship tournament, which McGill won in 2011‐12.
It marked the fourth national title for LaPerle, who was an assistant coach at Middlebury College in Vermont when they won
back‐to‐back NCAA Division III national championships in 2004‐05 and 2005‐06. He was also a volunteer assistant hockey
coach for the University of Denver in 2003‐04 when the Pioneers won the NCAA Division I national championship.
Coach LaPerle previously served as head coach and general manager for Cleveland Barons midget major AAA hockey club in
Cleveland, Ohio. Closer to home, he served as head coach of the Senior Boys Spartans at Stanstead College, where he was also a
rugby coach, fitness instructor and teacher in physical education, math & science. LaPerle’s passion for coaching hockey was
sparked early while working at the Philips Exeter Academy summer hockey school.
Born and raised in the small town of Exeter, New Hampshire, LaPerle received his Bachelor of Science degree from New
Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University), where he played varsity hockey as a forward for the Penmen.
He received his master's in Sport Administration at SNHU in 2003 and more recently a Physical & Health Education degree
from McGill University. A Montrealer since 2010, Chris LaPerle lives with his wife Ali and two young children.
Committed to excellence, Coach LaPerle’s teaching philosophy is to develop life skills and citizenship in individuals through a
strong balance of academics and athletics. As such, he looks forward to joining the Selwyn House community.
Sincerely yours,
Mike Maurovich
