1. Charde’ Barnes
CCJS100 Lesson Plan
Week Five (March 1st
- 7th
)
Objective: Students will begin to discuss the topics of the various divisions of state, federal and
municipal agencies. Begin to discuss police discretion and the issue of police abuse of power and
possible police corruption. Try to tie the lessons discussed in lecture to real world cases of abuse
and videos of viral abuse. Prepare students for upcoming discussion writing assignment.
Activities:
1. Review what students thought of the midterm and what they felt they were prepared for
and what they weren’t prepared for. Try to develop a sense of what we could do as a
group to better prepare for the next exam.
2. Discuss the various divisions of police power throughout the multiple branches, if
reviewed in lecture, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the dual responsibilities
of these agencies. (i.e. money distribution, power/responsibility)
3. Review what was discussed in lecture about the issue of police discretion which could
lead to the problem of police brutality. Have students try to relate to any real world
experiences they have read, seen or heard about recently that could tie into this topic. If
time search videos of harsh police brutality instances caught on camera and have students
give their opinions on the matters.
4. Discuss their upcoming writing assignment due in discussion sections, go over the rubric
and any complementing information that was given by their discuss leaders on how the
responses should be developed. Begin a rough outline of ideas if time.
*Remind students to start their discussion papers early*
