History Of WISU
WISU 89.7 FM began broadcasting in 1964 and is a student ran radio station. The current format is modern
rock and urban music. It also includes ISU sports and a sports talk show. We are operated as part of the
ISU Student Media program and staffed by students at Indiana State University.
Vision
As a student radio broadcast, the station operates primarily to present programming that is consistent with
the educational and cultural mission of Indiana State and to provide a laboratory for students interested in
broadcasting and other fields related to WISU programming.
Purpose
The radio station is used as a teaching tool for those in the field of broadcasting, while providing
entertainment to the campus and the community.
Call to Action
We serve as a stepping stone for students who are studying the field of Broadcasting along with
Communications. WISU are a noncommercial station licensed to ISU’s Board of Trustees by the Federal
Communications Commission. For students, this is the perfect opportunity to gain experience in the field,
as well in the studio.
