1. When Lavern and Linda Miller began raising chickens on their own farm in 2013, Cherry
Capital Foods was already familiar with the farming talents the Miller’s possessed.
We had been buying chicken from nearby Maple Ridge Farm since 2009, and
the Millers were an integral part of that operation. When the Maple Ridge
Farms owners made a move to another community, Double L Farm was
born and Lavern and Linda were a natural next step for us to continue
local chicken ranching and processing.
Located in the ideal farming community of McBain, Double L Farm
encompasses the Miller’s Amish values throughout its entire operation.
The Millers are dedicated to free range, barnyard access - and for 2014,
100% GMO free feeding practices. They raise and process their White
Mountain Cross variety without preservatives, hormones or additives. The
Millers also practice humane treatment by keeping the chickens’ beaks intact,
and giving them more attention and space than a commercial poultry farm ever
could. Just down the road at an MDA-approved small production facility, their chickens
are processed and prepared for market with the same attention to these values.
The direct results of these practices, plus plenty of fresh air and sunlight:
distinctly better flavor and texture than commercially raised chickens.
