educationtoadolescentsandchildren,includingtheirfamilies,regardinghealthy
nutrition,aswellastheneedforphysicalactivity.Thiswillultimatelyresulttoan
increaseincreaseinknowledgeabouthealthylifestylepatternswhilereducingbodymassindex
(BMI)significantly.Thisprojectalsoprovidesfurtherevidencethatremoteeducation,in
collaborationwithmotivationalinterviewingcanalsoresultinadvantageousoutcomes,

may dealwith a numberofnegative health impacts,including diabetes and
cardiovasculardiseases,aswellassomesocialimplicationsandpsychologicaldistress.
Withthis,primarycareprovidersarepositioneduniquelytodeterminetheindividuals
whoareatriskforthesediseases,assessingandscreeningthem forcomplication,
educatingandtreatingwheneverappropriate.Theaim ofthisresearchprojectisto
providetheneedededucationtoadolescentsandchildren,includingtheirfamilies,

2. StatementoftheProblem
Despitetheobviousincreaseinawarenessregardingobesityandweightproblems
amongtheyoungergeneration,theprevalencecontinuestorise,thusmakingpediatric
obesityasamongthemostpopularchronicdiseasesinchildhood.In2010alone,over
athirdoftheadolescentsandchildrentestedwereeitherobeseoroverweight(Olsen
et.al,2012)
AssessmentofObesityinPrimaryCareAssessmentofObesityinPrimaryCare
Riskfactorsthatareconnectedwithpediatricobesity,aswellasitsrelatedadverse
outcomesmayturnouttobesevere.Moreover,thelikelihoodofpotentiallycarrying
theseriskfactorsastheyenteradulthoodisalsohigh(Garner,2004).Adolescentswho
aresufferingfromobesitygenerallyhavean80%probabilityofalsobecomingobesein
adulthood(Garner,2004).Therefore,measuringweightisessentialinscreeningand
assessingtherisksinvolvedinprimarycare.
WWeightLossInterventions
Ithasbeenacceptedwidelythattheenvironmentsofadolescentsandchildreninthe
UnitedStatesencouragethemtogetlostincalorie-dense,unhealthysugarandfoods
whilesupportinginactivitythroughcomputeruse,televisionviewing,aswellasvideo
gameusage.Alotofadolescentsandchildrenarenotmeetingtherequiredmoderate
tostrongactivitystandards.Withtheincorporationofhealthylifestyleeducationinthe
family,asignificantimprovementinweightlosshasbeenobserved.
MethodsMethods
Twelvepatientswereaskedtojointhisproject.Thepatientsthemselves,aswellas
theirfamilies,receivedcontactseveryweekforstraightsevenweeks.Outofthe
original12patientswhojoined,9havecompletedallofthesessions.Oneamongthem
waseliminatedfrom theresults,becausetheinitialBMIdidnotmeetthestandard.
However,shewasalsoincludedinallofthesessions.Anotheradolescentdropped
fromthestudyafterthesecondsession,whileanotherdroppedafterthethirdsession.

3. ResultsandDiscussion
TheoverallobjectivesandgoalsofthisinterventionprojectweretoreduceBody
MassIndex(BMI)throughpatienteducationabouthealthyactivityandnutrition.The
smallsamplesizeweakentheresults,notallowingforanyformofgeneralizability.On
topofthat,certainsubgroupdifferencesincludingethnicity,gender,ageandother
factors,cannotbeanalyzedbecauseofthenumberofparticipants.Overall,thisproject
showsthatremoteeducationalinterventionsessions,includingtheoneusedinthis
projectis effective when performed in the clinicalsetting,and may also be
implementedinacost-effectivimplementedinacost-effective,timely,andefficientmanner.
