2. The Cadillac BLS is a compact executive
car manufactured in Europe by Cadillac, a
division of General Motors.
Based on General Motor’s Epsilon architecture,
the BLS was a heavily re-styled version of
the Saab 9-3.
The development was done by Saab and the
car cost more than $140 million to design. It
was manufactured in Sweden, alongside
the Saab 9-3 and the Saab 9-5.
3. Sales of the sedan began in March 2006, with
a station wagon joining the line for 2007. The
BLS was introduced to the Middle
East, Mexican, South African, and South
Korean markets for the 2007 model year and
not sold in the American market.
In 2007, Cadillac produced 2,772 cars.
Production figures for 2007 were down from
3,257 in 2006 and production of the BLS
ceased in 2009 as a result of the poor sales.
4. The BLS was Cadillac's attempt at a medium-sized
saloon. Despite the all-American name it
was developed for European tastes with
distinctive styling while equipment levels were
generous.
But there's little else to recommend the BLS.
It was dull to drive, looks and feels dated
inside with some flimsy switchgear while
Cadillac's dealer network is very limited in
size. So while the price tag put it alongside the
likes of the BMW 3-Series, the quality and
driving experience fell way short.
