2. Dan is a former Olympic athlete and is now a
premier health and fitness coach. Dan spoke
at a meeting/event industry summit taking
place on Campus on Thursday, September 28.
He took an interest in learning more about
Dining and Eventions at Microsoft. To show
him our services, we created a tour for him to
learn more about our business.
3. Kitchen 125: Eventions
• Pick your favorite movie, then design an event, considering décor and food, that would
fit the theme. Our Eventions team plans over 30,000 events a year, so this will give you
some insight as to what goes into one event!
• All of our desserts for Eventions are made in house. See how much work it takes to
decorate a cupcake! You both have 10 minutes to decorate a cupcake.
Kitchen 125: Black Soldier Flies/Sustainability
• Black Solider Flies (BSF) are one of the fastest composting methods. They can turn our
pre-consumer waste into sustainable protein, yielding higher protein per acre of any
plant or animal. We feed them, they feed chickens! Guess how many BSF are in the bin!
4. Boardwalk: Taffy
• Maria Hines’ Boardwalk Restaurant is known for it’s 85% organic food and Boardwalk
look and feel. Build a taffy tower from Boardwalk’s famous taffy. The most creative
abode will win this round.
The Commons: Guess the Weight
• Most Salad Bars on Campus are pay by weight, meaning our guests can add whatever
they like to their meal! Create a meal from the weighted lunch section (at Post Alley)
and keep the cost under $10. The person closest to the $10 without going over wins.
5. Café 83: Hydroponics/Urban Farming
• Hydroponics grow healthy food for a healthy planet! They use 90% less water than
conventional farming. The Urban Farm team grows 15,000 pounds of greens for Campus!
Microgreens are also grown on Campus, packed full of intense flavor and nutrients. They
are harvested fresh after growing from 7-12 days. In this round, you’ll do a tasting of
hydroponic microgreens – and guess the microgreen to win!
Café 83: Espresso/Make Latte (Ripple)
• Café 83 boasts latte art, called the Ripple! Both contestants have their own coffee ripple
photo on a latte. They have to run around the lobby and the person whose design still
looks the best wins.
6. Café 16: Crickets
• Crickets require less water, feed and space than other proteins. They also produces significantly less greenhouse
gasses. Tout the benefits of crickets while seeing who can hand out the most samples in Café 16 in 10 minutes.
Café 16: Ingredient Revolution
• Our dining locations on Campus partner with Puget Sound farmers to utilize “mistfit produce” that is normally tilled
under or discarded due to cosmetic variance (size, shape, color). To see if you can identify the items, put on a
blindfold, and try to identify each item by touch. If you must, taste to confirm your answer!
7. Café 36: Himalaya
• Newly-remodeled Café 36 has some amazing anchor stations. Relay through 3 of the
favorites – start at Himalaya, lunge to Dekotora, then sprint to Bosque with samples at each
station!
8. Building 33: HoloLens with visual hunt
• Use Microsoft’s HoloLens to get to the highest level during a 10 minute period!
9. We deemed both participants winners and presented them with gold spoons to
commemorate the day.
