Rear Admiral Bryan P. Cutchen, USN
Rear Adm. Cutchen assumed command ofNavy Reserve Forces
Command in August of2012. He is responsiblefor Navy Reserve
budgeting and execution, personnel readiness and for sourcing Navy
mobilization requirements as directed by the ChiefofNaval Operations
and U. S. Fleet Forces Command.
Rear Adm. Cutchen grew up in Brunswick, Maine and graduated from
Maine Maritime Academy in 1983 with a Bachelor ofScience degree in
Nautical Science. He was commissioned in April of1983and following
training in Pensacola, FL, Meridian, MSand Corpus Christi, TX, was
designated a naval aviatorin Septemberof 1985. Cutchen holds a
Master ofArts degree in Strategic Studies from AirWar College.
Cutchen’s operational assignments include E-2CHawkeye squadron
tours with Carrier Airborne Early Warning (VAW) Squadron 114 HAWGS, VAW-78 Fighting Escargot,
VAW-88 Cottonpickers and VAW-77 Nightwolves.From 2000 to 2001 he commanded VAW-77, a special
mission counter narcotics squadron supporting UnitedStates Southern Command. Cutchen also
commanded Carrier Air Wing Reserve 20 from August 2006 to July 2008. From April 2005 to July 2006
he served as deputy air wing commander.
Cutchen's staff and shore assignments include:VAW-110 Firebirds aboard Naval Air Station Miramar,
Calif., as a flight instructor;Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (N32) as assistantair operations;a tour on
the staff of the chiefofnaval operations in the directorofNavy Reserve(N095) as the tactical air
requirements officer;followed by re-assignment to the Warfare Integration branch (N70) as the Joint
Capabilities Integration and Development System coordinator;deputy commander, Naval Air Force
Reserve;and, most recently, as deputy commanderfor the Office of the Chief of Navy Reserve from July
2010 to July 2012.
Cutchen has amassed nearly 5,000 hours in the various aircraft including the E-2CHawkeye, C-2A
Greyhound and F-18A+Hornet. He is entitled to wear the Distinguished ServiceMedal, Legion ofMerit,
Meritorious Service Medal, and several othercommendations and awards.
Rear Adm. Cutchen is married to artistTerrilyn “Sissy” Rosenberg Cutchen and they havetwo children,
Ensign Max Cutchen, USN and Ensign Annie Cutchen, USN.
