I’ve been the Energy Manager for ASU since mid-2013, prior to that I worked for Johnson Controls, Inc. (JCI)
as an HVAC engineer and a Project Manager. During my career as a Project Manager I managed controls
installations for data-centers, hospitals,and one of my latest before joining Ameresco was the ISTB4 building
at ASU. Bruce Feldhusen was hired by ASU mid-2014 as a lead controls technician to transition ISTB4 out of
the construction phase and continue to monitor and manage the health of the controls and building systems.
I was teamed with Bruce to help with this transition and to help train Bruce with the installed JCI systems.
Bruce Feldhusen, with his extensive knowledge of various other control systems and building systems was a
very quick study. Bruce quickly understood the design intent and was able to further advance the building
controls and building systems to fine tune programs, adding additional hardware when needed, to create
additional system stability while saving energy in areas of electricity, chilled water, and steam. Bruce’s
contribution to ISTB4 has allowed the building occupants, mainly researchers, a stable building a nd in return
stable laboratories to conduct their research. Bruce has been instrumental in resolving other post
construction issues that have developed including water balancingissues, air balance issues, laboratory
pressurization concerns, and concerns of other building systems such as the laboratory exhaust systems that
are above and beyond his normal daily activities; Bruce has become the expert that occupants and his piers
consult with.
I’m writing this letter of recommendation for Bruce Feldhusen because of his great efforts and contributions
in energy savings, my area of focus, that he has brought forth while at ASU. Bruce has been a pleasure to
work with, he is self-motivated, and always has time to listen to the next idea for energy savings no matter
how great or small. Bruce, in my observations, always has the customer’s best interests in mind; not just for
the short term goals that are often requested of him but the long term as well.
