FLY LIKE A BUTTERFLY IS TAKING OVER THE LA ZOO
The Los Angeles Zoo has partnered up with Fly Like a Butterfly Exhibit for the opening
of insects and bugs from around the world. The major attraction of it all will be a walk-through
butterfly garden where thousands of butterflies from around the world will be displayed. All
elementary schools in LA county are welcome and will only pay the entrance fee of the LA Zoo.
This exhibit will begin on Sunday, October 1, 2017, and will run until Sunday, December 31,
2017, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, excluding holidays. The LA Zoo is located at 5333 Zoo Drive,
Los Angeles.
All elementary school students will have the opportunity to learn and view the wonders
of butterflies up-close and personal. Students will learn about a variety of butterflies such as the
Blue Morpho from Central America, the Ceylon Rose from Sri Lanka, Chimaera Birdwing from
Papua New Guinea and much more. Students will enjoy learning about how butterflies feed, rest,
mate and why such beautiful animals are going extinct.
Fly Like a Butterfly will be giving out gift bags to each student who attends the butterfly
exhibit. Each gift bag will contain a butterfly coloring book, butterfly stickers, and trivia about
butterflies. Chandler Bing, President of the Fly Like a Butterfly says, “We want as many students
to come and learn about how important butterflies are to this world. These are endangered
animals that need to be protected and we want to educate students as much as we can.”

2. FLY LIKE A BUTTERFLY IS TAKING OVER THE LA ZOO Add 1-1-1
LA Zoo president and CEO Ross Geller says he is excited for this exhibit to happen, “I
can’t wait for the students to come and learn about other animals that may not be as popular
compared to a giraffe or a zebra. This will be a great learning experience for the students and
teachers.”
Fly Like a Butterfly will also have a lepidopterist guest speaker Rachel Green, to do the
walk through in the butterfly garden and answer any questions that the students may have. Green
says, “As a lepidopterist, I can educate the students on why it is heartbreaking that these animals
are disappearing. Hopefully, I can teach them as much as I can about all the butterflies in the
world.”
The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens opened on November 28, 1966. The Zoo is
home to more than 1,100 mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles representing more than 250
different species of which 29 are endangered. In addition, the Zoo’s botanical collection
comprises several planted gardens and over 800 different plant species with over 7,400
individual plants. The Zoo receives over 1.5 million visitors per year and is owned and operated
by the City of Los Angeles.
Admissions to the LA Zoo will be regular price $20 for teachers and $10 for each
