1. It is my pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Brittany Ollerenshaw. Brittany
first came to my attention when she accepted employment at our garden centre and nursery
in the winter of 2011. She was originally hired as a cashier but, as her talents and work ethic
became apparent, she was given additional responsibilities such as creating displays. Her
cheerfulness and ability to relate to people, customers and co-workers alike, made her
someone that folks enjoyed being around.
In 2014 Brittany was transferred to the Nursery and Wholesale department, coming
under my direct supervision. Her primary responsibility was to assemble orders for wholesale
customers. This is not as easy a task as it appears; there are many intangibles to be sorted
out. It usually takes several seasons for someone to master this job. It did not take Brittany
very long to do so and she was soon ready to take on more assignments. She became one
of the main topiary pruners as well as an integral part of the landscape design team.
Brittany’s willingness to accept new challenges and her ability to succeed at them is
remarkable. So far, however, this letter would only serve to further a career in horticulture and
that is not its purpose. Otherwise, we would still be working together.
Brittany relates to people in an extraordinary manner. There is an empathy that is
neither patronising nor condescending: she meets them “where they’re at.” She displays an
inner strength that helps her deal with unpleasant situations without comprising her core
values. These are the qualities and attributes that make me very comfortable in writing this
letter of recommendation.
