Scytl Hosts Symposium on Election Technologies that
Empower Voters and Poll Workers with Disabilities
Scytl present insights to city and county election leaders and disability advocates on election and
citizen engagement technologies that empower individuals with disabilities.
Tampa, May 11, 2015 –Scytl, the worldwide leader in
secure online voting, election modernization and
eGovernance solutions today announced that it will host
the symposium “Empowering Voters and Poll Workers
with Disabilities: New technologies for Election Leaders”
on May 14 at the Mid-America Club in Chicago.
Attendees include representatives from the Chicago
Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, the Disability
Rights Bureau at the Office of the Illinois Attorney
General, city and county election officials, and disability
advocates.
Over 35 million voting-age people in the United States are individuals with disabilities and less than
half of them voted in the 2012 general election. Although there have been great strides in making
elections more accessible since the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) was signed into law 25 years ago,
there is still work to be done.
Today’s election leaders continue to face both opportunity and obligation to serve individuals with
disabilities. Scytl election modernization technology can help them empower individuals with
disabilities to vote privately, securely and independently.
The Honorable Chet Culver, former Iowa Governor and Secretary of State and current Enable
America advisor will share his perspective on HAVA. Executive Director of Enable America, Chris
Jadick will speak on the 25 years of progress in promoting civil rights for individuals with disabilities.
Enable America is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to increase employment
among people with disabilities.
Scytl General Manager Brian O’Connor will deliver insight on new technologies that are available to
help election leaders empower individuals with disabilities to vote and stay engaged throughout the
entire electoral and democratic cycle.
“Scytl is excited to have such distinguished speakers from Enable America at this symposium sharing
their knowledge on such an important topic as voter accessibility,” says Scytl General Manager Brian
O’Connor. “We have been working with Enable America to ensure that all of our customer-facing
election solutions makes voting more accessible to individuals with disabilities. With their guidance,
several of our new products will all be Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 compliant.”
