1. Wouldn’t PCI
compliance be easier
if your systems never
needed to store,
process or transmit
credit card data?
Hospitality security experts
have figured out how your
hotel can do just that.
It’s no secret that hotel payment card theft has been one of
the biggest issues our industry has faced in recent years — an
industry problem needing an industry solution. Now there is one.
HTNG, the vendor-neutral membership association that
unites the world’s hotel companies to solve industry technology
challenges, has outlined that solution. The result of 18 months
of dedicated effort by a group of security experts from numerous
major hotel companies, the HTNG Secure Payments Framework
for Hospitality is now available as a free public resource for the
benefit of the industry. It describes the steps hotels and their
payment vendors can take to ensure that no hotel application
system ever needs to store, process or transmit payment card
data.
By using this framework, hotels can eliminate the need to
comply with many of the most challenging PCI requirements.
Implemented with proper professional guidance, they can also
dramatically reduce the risk that a security breach can result in
the theft of sensitive card data.
The objective is to let hotels focus on hospitality, while the
payments industry uses its security expertise to safeguard
hotels’ payment card data. The framework builds on existing
solutions, but also addresses difficult issues that no known
hotel or vendor implementation has yet been able to resolve,
without exposing at least some hotel systems to payment card
data.
Major hotel groups that participated in the development of
this framework are already making plans to implement it in
conjunction with their payment service partners. Shouldn’t
you, too?
