 Nougat (Android 7.x) is the 14th version of the Android operating
system, and the 12th public version
 Public release date: 22 August 2016
 First phones running Nougat: Google Nexus, Google Pixel, LG V20
 Current versions: 7.0, 7.1
 Stock release on Google Pixel phones

Changes
 “Advanced calling features” (WiFi calling and video calling over LTE
and WiFi) are supported
 These features were introduced in a point-upgrade version of
Marshmallow
 Daydream VR (headset and apps) for compatible phones
 App Drawer (Settings: All Applications) has returned to a vertical
scroll
 Android versions through Froyo (2.2) had a vertical scroll. Gingerbread
(versions 3.x) introduced the horizontal scroll
 Widgets have been removed from the App Drawer and are now
accessible from the home screens

New Features
 Quick task switching
 Double-click the menu button to switch between the two most recent
apps
 Customizable Quick Settings
 Change what’s in that first settings drop-down to suit your own needs
 Split screen display
 Long-click the menu button to bring up an open task in the right half of
the screen
 Customizable Share menu
 Pin apps there just as you would pin them to the home screen

 Doze (battery optimization)
 Detects when the device or app is idle
 Data Saver controls to minimize cellular data use
 Changeable text size
 New emoji

Notifications Changes
 Bundled notifications
 Allow you to see all the notifications from an app as a single notification
 This seems to depend on the application
 Reply directly from notifications
 No need to go into the app
 Direct boot allows you to see important communications immediately
after booting
 App-based notification priority
 Depending on the app, you can either semi-swipe or long tap a notification to
bring up notification settings

 Background updates on compatible devices
 Doesn’t require waiting and/or reboot for security updates
 File-based encryption
 As opposed to device-based encryption
