blake’s look Edited by jade frampton
F
or this month’s cover story, ELLE hit the gym with actress Blake Lively,
who, on a November afternoon, arrived incognito—in a sweater, black leg-
ging jeans, candy-pop cocktail rings, and tasseled flats—to the penthouse
suite at Manhattan’s Milk Studios. To create Lively’s look, ELLE Creative
Director Joe Zee referenced Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 1952 Hollywood work-
out portraits by photographer Philippe Halsman. Justin Timberlake’s Future-
Sex/LoveSounds played as photographer Tom Munro shot her in a fitted Altu-
zarra leather vest and curve-hugging Alexander Wang pants, while Lively’s
beloved Maltipoo, Penny, wandered the set. For the final shot, the actress wore
nothing but Isabel Marant’s net shirt over a red linen tank top as she dusted
white boxer’s chalk from her hands. Then Lively scooped up her tiny sidekick
and wheeled her Chanel trolley bag out the door, leaving us to guess where she
was heading next.—Natasha Clark
