Lowell Community Health Center: Leading the Way in Community Health
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity.”
World Health Organization Definition of Health
Founded in 1970, the Lowell Community Health Center’s mission is to provide caring,
quality and culturally competent health services to the people of Greater Lowell, regard-
less of their financial status; to reduce health disparities and enhance the health of the
Greater Lowell community; and to empower each individual to maximize their overall
well-being. No patient is denied health care services because of the inability to pay.

How we are funded: Lowell CHC derives only 72% of its income from fees and health
insurance reimbursement. The remaining 28% is covered by grants and generous do-
nations. Contributions to our annual WrapAround Fund—a key focus of our fundraising
efforts—pay for vital health-related services not covered by insurance or government
support, including medical interpretation; community health screenings and outreach;
youth programming focusing on violence, HIV, substance abuse and teen pregnancy
prevention through making healthy choices; and linking patients to jobs, shelter, food and
vital community resources. These services ensure a healthier quality of life for patients and
their families.
Based on our commitment to quality and culturally competent care, Lowell CHC
• Is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organiza-
tions, recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s
commitment to meeting rigorous performance standards
• Is recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a top-level
Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)
• Is one of the top culturally competent health care sites in the nation according to
the Federal Office of Minority Health.
About Lowell CHC: Patients trust Lowell Community Health Center. Every year, we touch the
lives of nearly 50,000 people – or almost half the population of the City of Lowell.
• More than 90% of Lowell CHC patients are low income, and 46% are best
served in a language other than English.
