The document discusses the implementation of an environmental management system (EMS) at TERI University in New Delhi. It outlines the contents of the EMS plan, including conducting a SWOT analysis. The EMS plan aims to minimize the university's environmental impact through policies addressing energy, waste, air, landscaping, water and monitoring. Key elements of the EMS include establishing management structure and documentation systems to track performance and ensure compliance.

4. INTRODUCTION
Environmental problems are becoming complex.
Universities are best place for instilling the ideas.
They make a significant contribution to society.
Universities are adopting environmental management plans and strategies .
5. To be continued..
Till date there is no university in India.
TERI university established in 1998.
The university has two faculties :
Faculty of Applied Sciences
Faculty of Policy and Planning
6.
7. SWOT ANALYSIS
It is widely used in decision making
Strengths and weaknesses of a system are determined by
internal elements
External forces dictate opportunities and threats
SWOT is an appropriate technique for identification of
recommendations for
organizations
This given study with an aim to see how the EMS to be
implemented
8. To be continued..
SWOT analysis has been conducted based on the initial environmental review.
Weaknesses and threats have also been identified .
The SWOT analysis serves as the foundation for drafting the environment policy of the university.
9.
10. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN
An Environmental Management Plan (EMP)
can be defined as “an environmental
management tool used to ensure that undue or
reasonably avoidable adverse impacts of the
construction, operation and decommissioning of a
project are prevented; and that the positive benefits
of the projects are enhanced.
11. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY OF TERI UNIVERSITY
University aims to involve people at TERI University
in reducing the environmental
impacts .
They can understand its role in striving toward
global environmental sustainability.
Integrate environmental concerns in decision-
making, e.g. purchasing policy.
12. POLICIES
Comply with all required environmental legislation and
government guideline,
wherever applicable.
Ensure that there is optimum utilization of resources and
waste generation is
minimized.
Integrate environmental concerns in decision-making, e.g.
purchasing policy.
13. To be continued..
Implement an EMS.
Strive towards continual reduction in ecological footprint
of the university as it grows.
15. DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM
(1) An environmental information system, which links
different departments at an operational level and also, helps to
publish information internally to the members
of the university and if required to the public in general is
being prepared.
(2) Documentation of all events conducted as a part of EMS as
well as of reports from internal and external audits will be
carried out after the implementation of
the EMS.
17. Environmental domains
Energy management
Waste management (solid and hazardous waste)
Ambient/indoor air management
Landscaping
Water management
Monitoring mechanism
18. To be continued…
Energy management
The university will manage energy cooling and heating system and manage and carry
a carbon footprint analysis which help in estimating GHG. Quantitative targets would
then be undertaken for reduction in energy consumption.
AIR MANAGEMENT
The university is located in good area the university can be manage by different things
for air quality which is useful for environment and for university as well
Landscaping
A management plan is being prepared for minimizing use of potable water for irrigation
as well as minimal use of pesticides and fertilizers in the gardens.
20. To be continued…
WATER MANAGEMENT
The share of water consumption for various activities and a strategy can then
be devised for reducing the water footprint.
Monitoring Mechanism
A monitoring mechanism has been established which will ensure a regular
check on implementation of the EMP as well as impact of the plan in
improving environmental performance of the university
21. CONCLUSION
Universities across the globe are taking honorable steps
and minimize the activities that effect on environment.
Sustainability is only one way by Environmental
Management System.
Maintenance, construction and renovations in the
university may give great prospects to enhance the
environmental conditions of the universities.
22. To be continued…
Promotion of environmental education and installation of
EMS in university
Analysis should be important to carried out strength and
weakness and analysis of how much carbon footprint
produced
The university hope that everyone take a right direction
according to environmental management system
