The Croquet Association have rolled out a new GC handicap
system for the 2016 season onwards to be adopted by all
affiliated clubs when playing games conducted to the official CA
rules of Golf Croquet.
The new system was developed after studying over 8000
matches over the last year and it is believed that the new
system will make games between handicap players more fair.
The range of handicaps has been increased from (-3 to +12) to
(-6 to +20), and the trigger points at which players handicaps
change, up or down, amended.
‘Effective’ handicaps will no longer be used.

As far as the BCC is concerned all handicaps issued for the 2016
season are not affected by the new system, save changing from
the old numbering system to the new.
If your existing handicap is in the range 12 to 3 (inclusive),
convert your index as follows:
o If your existing handicap is between 12 and 6, keep your
handicap and add 1100 to your existing index to get your new
index.
o If your existing handicap is 5, keep your handicap and add
1150 to your existing index.
o If your existing handicap is 4 or 3, add 1200 to your existing
index. If by doing so your new index is 1800 or above your
new handicap becomes 2. Click to move on

In the new system, the Trigger Points at which your handicap changes
have been amended.
The table below shows the nominal Indexes for each handicap and
therefore the trigger points above and below each handicap at which
your handicap will change.
For example, the nominal Index for handicap 5 is 1500. Games lost or
won will change your index and when you reach 1600 your handicap will
change to 4. Conversely, when you reach 1400 your handicap will
change to 6.

6. Your initial handicap will have been set by the BCC
handicapper but this can be adjusted (by a minimum of
2, up or down) at any time by the BCC handicapper or
at the request of a player if you think your handicap is
incorrect.
Your handicap card is used to keep a track of your
Index as it changes when you play ‘Recordable
Matches’.
Recordable matches are those that you and your
opponent agree will be played under the official rules of
Golf Croquet as issued by the Croquet Association.
These matches will include, BCC Tournaments, Open
tournaments at other clubs, Southern Federation
League matches, and BCC Ladder matches.

This figure may well be the same as your
starting index on the front sheet if this is your
first handicap card.
Otherwise it will be the last entry from your old
handicap card + the offset for the new system,
dependent on your existing handicap
