EVENT
GUIDE
Welcome to Regina AfroFest 2015!
© AFROFUSION ENTERTAINMENT INC.
Can there be a better way to enjoy a summer day in Saskatchewan than savoring music,
food and dance at an outdoor festival?
Not when the event is AfroFest! Those who attended last year’s inaugural event have
been asking for more. We’re thrilled to present Regina AfroFest 2015, another opportunity
to celebrate the richness and diversity of Africa right here in Regina’s downtown Victoria
Park.
Mystique and myth abound in perceptions of the fifty-four countries that call the continent
of Africa home. Thousands of native cultures, western influences and a drive to nation-
building have re-drawn and re-colored the continent’s map many times during the past
few hundred years and continues to do so today.
This rich history not only gives everyone who traces their roots to the continent a strong
identification with African music, food and dance – it also resonates across the world and
is embraced in places as far flung from Africa as our city on the prairies.
Last year AfroFest began our African journey featuring the music of West Africa with its
traditional drumming. This year’s festival music originates in East Africa, with a strong
rhythmic influence that is sure to have you dancing. Food choices will feature the popular
favorites from last year, add Jerk Chicken to the mix and introduce African-themed pou-
tine for true culinary fusion. If you are in a shopping mood, the festival will feature African
couture, furniture, and instruments, as well as African-themed clothing and jewelry. We’re
also proud to once again feature Grandmothers for Grandmothers.
Our ambition for AfroFest is to bring people together, to share the diverse culture of Af-
rica with our Regina community. By sharing music, food and dance, the most heartfelt
expressions of our African culture, we come to truly understand and know each other and
celebrate all that we have in common.
Enjoy all that AfroFest 2015 has to offer!

Mayor’s Message
Mayor Michael Fougere
On behalf of City Council, I am pleased to extend a warm
welcome to all in attendance at the 2015 Regina AfroFest.
This year marks the 2nd year of the annual outdoor com-
munity event that brings together people to celebrate Af-
rica’s diverse cultures through music, performance, arts
& crafts, food and workshops.
I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to AfroFusion
Entertainment Inc. For the incredible work they do to
ensure that African cultures are represented through
music and dance in Saskatchewan. As a non-profit
organization, AfroFusion relies on Fundraising events,
such as this, to increase public knowledge and
appreciation about the diversity of Africa and to help support and promote other
non-profit cultural activities. Thank you to all of the organizers who worked
tirelessly to ensure the success of this year’s event.
Best wishes For what I know will be yet another memorable Regina AfroFest.
	Sincerely,

Regina AfroFest Event Program-web version

  • 2. Welcome to Regina AfroFest 2015! © AFROFUSION ENTERTAINMENT INC. Can there be a better way to enjoy a summer day in Saskatchewan than savoring music, food and dance at an outdoor festival? Not when the event is AfroFest! Those who attended last year’s inaugural event have been asking for more. We’re thrilled to present Regina AfroFest 2015, another opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of Africa right here in Regina’s downtown Victoria Park. Mystique and myth abound in perceptions of the fifty-four countries that call the continent of Africa home. Thousands of native cultures, western influences and a drive to nation- building have re-drawn and re-colored the continent’s map many times during the past few hundred years and continues to do so today. This rich history not only gives everyone who traces their roots to the continent a strong identification with African music, food and dance – it also resonates across the world and is embraced in places as far flung from Africa as our city on the prairies. Last year AfroFest began our African journey featuring the music of West Africa with its traditional drumming. This year’s festival music originates in East Africa, with a strong rhythmic influence that is sure to have you dancing. Food choices will feature the popular favorites from last year, add Jerk Chicken to the mix and introduce African-themed pou- tine for true culinary fusion. If you are in a shopping mood, the festival will feature African couture, furniture, and instruments, as well as African-themed clothing and jewelry. We’re also proud to once again feature Grandmothers for Grandmothers. Our ambition for AfroFest is to bring people together, to share the diverse culture of Af- rica with our Regina community. By sharing music, food and dance, the most heartfelt expressions of our African culture, we come to truly understand and know each other and celebrate all that we have in common. Enjoy all that AfroFest 2015 has to offer! Visit Us Online www.reginaafrofest.com Use Our Hashtag #RAF2015 /reginaafrofestBe Social! 2 | Regina AfroFest 2015 Event Guide

I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to AfroFusion Entertainment Inc. For the incredible work they do to ensure that African cultures are represented through music and dance in Saskatchewan. As a non-profit organization, AfroFusion relies on Fundraising events, such as this, to increase public knowledge and appreciation about the diversity of Africa and to help support and promote other non-profit cultural activities.
