LETTER OF REFERENCE: MS AVRIL SWAFFIELD WITH ID NUMBER 6105300048080
Ms. Swaffield was employed by Platinum X Distribution (Pty) Ltd from March 2011, effectively until February
2015. During this period, Avril conducted the position of Project Manager of the company’s annual SEXPO’s in
Johannesburg, but also those held in Cape Town and Durban during certain years.
She reported directly to the director of the company, Mr. Arthur Calamaras. As the HR Manager of the company
and one of the senior managers who have worked closest with Ms. Swaffield during her term of employment, I
have been nominated to present this letter of reference, as I can best discuss the qualities and skills that Avril
brought to our company.
Avril handled all planning and negotiations for the shows, in accordance to the vision of Mr. Calamaras for each
show and was also tasked with the exhibitor sales. She proved to be a diligent and meticulous manager and
always ran a tight ship, with an end result being a fun show of which each and every facet was covered. There
really was not any aspect of the show in which Ms. Swaffield was not involved - from marketing to security, to
acts that wowed, sponsorships, safety, insurance, accreditations, she acted as spokesperson for SEXPO on many
occasions, staffing and also dispute resolution, to name but a few aspects. She ensured that all supplier,
performer and exhibitor agreements were in place, checked on licensing and assisted exhibitors to obtain the
necessary correct licenses where needed. In all honesty, Avril is a regular super woman, who is sadly missed by
the SEXPO crew.
She is a conscientious self-starter, who is able to make quick rational decisions and resolve problem areas with
great ease. Avril furthermore has excellent communication skills and she knows how to achieve a company’s
strategic aims and goals and more importantly how to give strategic direction to those working with her.
Avril is an absolute team player and no job is too big or too small for her. She is one of the few people that I have
had the pleasure of working with who is willing and able to give a 110% to the company that she works for. She
was willing to put as many hours into the show as required, to ensure that the show would be a success, without
complaining and without the company needing to request that overtime work be done. Avril is professional, with
a great sense of humour and an all-rounder in every single aspect of the word.
Furthermore, it is without a doubt when I say that Avril is logical in her thinking and quick on the uptake. She
furthermore knows how to stay within even the tightest of budgets and strategizes continuously to ensure that
budgets are met. She adapts easily and therefore is a flexible manager with vision and always has a plan to reach
the company’s vision – even if she needs to amend the plan. Avril has a keen eye for detail and expects accurate
and concise information from those who work with her. She has a manner in which she inspires people within her
team to want to achieve more and is a positive person who influences others in a positive manner. Ms. Swaffield
can best be described as a capable, highly intelligent, well-organised and trustworthy individual, who takes pride
in meeting all deadlines and in everything that she does. She also proved to function extremely well in a highly
pressurised environment. Avril is a true leader and most definitely an achiever.
Prior to exiting the company – Avril took the time to teach others as much as she could about the work that she
has performed over the years in a clear and concise manner. As one of the persons that Avril relayed this
information to, I could only add that a career in teaching would also not be excluded for this lady. Although we
truly regret to see her leave, we wish her all of the best and highly recommend her to any future employer, with
confidence. She will most definitely be an asset to any company, if her numerous immeasurable contributions in
