Founded in Tyler, Texas in 1968 by Thomas A. Young, Atlas Credit has grown in the intervening decades from a single store to 52 stores across Texas. Despite this growth, Atlas Credit remains a family owned business and is still led by Thomas A. Young. As a company that provides consumer credit, Atlas Credit is a member of the Texas Consumer Finance Association.

comprised of traditional installment lenders
operating in Texas.

3. Traditional Lenders
 Given that traditional installment lenders
employ over 5,700 Texans and and were
responsible for lending over 2.5 billion dollars
in 2010, they are a force in the Texan
economy. In Texas, traditional installment
lenders or lenders who provide consumer
loans have been regulated under the Texas
Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner
since 1963. These regulations stipulate
acceptable interest rates and best practices to
determine whether a loan application should
be accepted and what the appropriate terms of
the loan should be.
