EDUCATION FOR LIFE ACADEMY LAUNCHES AFRICAN HISTORY CURRICULUM
CHALLENGING CONSERVATIVE WHITEWASHING OF EDUCATION
Atlanta, GA (October 28, 2015) – In light of recent news out of Pearland, Texas, where new
history textbooks refer to Africans enslaved during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade as “workers,”
Education for Life Academy (EFLA) has launched its long-awaited Standing on the Shoulders of
Giants Black history curriculum. With nearly a dozen free e-books, extensive slideshows,
documentaries, interviews, government documents, maps, timelines and more, users will gain
new insight into African American history and a new appreciation for African history. Through
unassailable primary source evidence, EFLA’s curriculum debunks old and new propaganda
related to African and African American history, like the current case in Texas.
The comprehensive Standing on the Shoulders of Giants curriculum is specially designed for the
classroom or the home, for teachers, parents, or independent study, and is online for convenience
(it can even be accessed with a smartphone). It contains easy-to-use Teaching & Study Guides for
each class and requires no prior knowledge of African history to teach or learn – perfect for busy
teachers and parents on the go.
As our nation suffers the daily, graphic consequences for failing to overcome its racial past, this
curriculum comes as a much-needed breakthrough. It begins an honest conversation on race and
sets the foundation for truth and reconciliation; it should be studied by both Blacks and Whites.
“The curriculum is not centered on shaming America or White people,” remarks Arkee
Hodges, president of EFLA. “It is about presenting history accurately as it occurred, so that
history becomes a tool of enlightenment instead of a weapon of propaganda.” The Standing
on the Shoulders of Giants curriculum promises an unparalleled educational experience that
serves to broaden the understanding of Africa and people of African descent in U.S. and world
history.
The curriculum begins with a short Introductory Unit that analyzes the biased nature of education
and efforts to counter that bias made by Black historians, such as Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Dr.
John Henrik Clark. The unit also examines the psychological effects of racism on both blacks and
whites. The Core Curriculum, Units 1-10, traces Black history in chronological order from its origins
in Africa 200,000 years ago to the contemporary period of U.S. history.
“For thousands of years, Africa was the light of the world. Africans pioneered virtually every
field of knowledge, including astronomy, math, science, medicine, architecture,
engineering, writing, and religion. Yet African and African-American history has been
deliberately omitted and distorted because it contradicts the racist philosophy of white
supremacy,” exclaims Hodges. Through the Standing on the Shoulders of Giants curriculum, the

factual history of the African Diaspora emerges, shattering centuries of propaganda that continues
