AkivaHebrewDaySchool duringhisEducationLeadershipandAdministrationprogramatthe University
of Michigan. Ithas alwaysbeenaprivilege toknow Anthonyandtosee histeachingabilities –whether
withhisfourthgrade class or hisK-5 Science classes.Anthonyhasalwaysbeenawonderfulteamplayer
at Akiva,demonstratinggreatleadershipabilitiesandasense of overall visionforhow toimprove each
child’sexperience inthe classroom.Itwaswonderful havinganopportunitytosee Anthonytake these
skillsandbringthemtoa newlevel thisyearwithhisinternship,whichtookhimbeyondthe classroom
realmand intoa glimpse of the educationadministrationworld.Anthonytookonthisresponsibilityas
he doeswitheverything –withgreatpride,dedicationanda willingnesstolearnandgrow fromhis
experiences.
As part of Anthony’sinternshipatAkiva,we askedhimtoresearchthe possibilityof implementinga
structurednewteachermentoringprogram.Anthonywasdiligentabouthisresearchandwasvery
independentinthisprocess.He made itverysimple forustomake informedchoicesaboutthe direction
we wantedto move inbypreparingformeetingsinadvance andwritingoutforus some of the basic
pros andcons of variousprograms.Anthonywasintouchdirectlywithseveral programsandpersistedin
tryingto findthe rightfitfor Akiva.Because of Anthony’sdemonstratedleadershipskills,we are hoping
to implementthisprogramforthe 2015-16 school year withhisguidance andinvolvement.Anthonyalso
tookthe opportunityduringhisinternshiptolearnasmuch as possible aboutworkinginan
Administrationrole inaschool,andhe met withvariousleadersinthe school andexploredthe typesof
challengesanAdministratorcanexperience.Anthonywasveryproactive insettinguptime to“shadow”
some of the Administrators.
Anthonyhasalwaysbeenateacherthat strivesforexcellence,andhe adoptedthe same levelof
determinationincompletinghisinternship.Itwasa pleasure workingwithAnthonyduringthislearning
process,andI believe thatwithcontinuedexperience andmentorsalongthe way,he will make an
excellentschool Administrator.
