Do you ever hesitate before riding your bike outside
because of the lack of bike lanes? Do you fear that
you will get hit by a car? Well if so this study is for you
because today we will be trying to put an end to
no lanes for bikes. We will talk about the
importance of bike lanes and the causes
of their being no bike lanes.

Many websites have studied the importance of bike lanes here are some of what i learned.
NACTO found that with there being more bike lanes there have been less injuries, and cities like
Minneapolis saw a 43% increase in bike traffic along with less car crashes after the roads were
more bike friendly. So not only does it reduce the amount of vehicles on the road which is better
for the world it also has reduced the amount of injuries on the road, including pedestrians and
drivers. So to sum it up there is studies that have shown proof that the increase in bike lanes has
had a positive impact on the people, environment, and community.

The whole point of bike lanes in is to make sure our communities our safe so how could i not have a slide
about safety? With the increased amount of bike lanes statistics show that collisions between cars and
bikes drop significantly For example, Bloor St. in Toronto saw a 71% reduction in collisions after protected
bike lanes were installed. Why you might ask? When cyclists have a designated, protected space, they move
more predictably, reducing the chances of accidents. It's not just safer for bikers, it's safer for drivers too.
6. Creating a safer community
You may be wondering how do bike lanes impact our community? Well they in fact play a massive role in the
community. First businesses love them. Cyclists often shop locally, contributing to local economy. Bike lanes
also increase the amount of safety in the area stoping accidents. It makes it more enjoyable to be in the
area when things are more organized and safe.

By reducing car use, we're reducing our carbon footprint. And with there being more bikes and elss cars
there’s less pollution which helps the earth. Bike lanes encourage there to be less drivers/pollution, a more
safe environment, and you're saving money since you don’t have to buy gas. So having bike lanes really help
our area and create a better environment for the people the community, and the earth. So lets make a good
impact on this planet and add some bike lanes!
8. The Road to Safety: Real Solutions to Real Problems
Lets start off by talking about how unsafe the roads are for bikers and painting a bike sign on the road and then calling it a day
isnt going to cut it this is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with properly. And it’s not just about the bikers that were
trying to protect its the whole community. Think about this, its a nice sunny day and you’re about to go out and ride your bike in
the area when you hear on the news someone in your community was hit by a car, now you are too scared to go bike riding. So not
only was someone injured, not only does someone have to spend their day now with a big problem from hitting the person, but now
you dont even feel comfortable in your area. We should be able to walk out and feel safe not worry about death when we just want
to enjoy life. By adding bike lanes we could make people feel more comfortable in their area. This isn't just about the bikers it’s
about making the community a better place.
9. Riding Into a Safer Future
What I have learned from this is that change is good and i think it would be really great for our community in
fact another reason it would be good for the community that i haven’t mentioned is that there would be less
pollution from there being more bikes and less cars meaning you wouldn't just be helping your community but also
the world. So with this being said does anyone have any questions or thoughts?
10. Why people wouldn’t want to add bike lanes
In order to create a fair research i would have to consider why might people not put these lanes
in. A website states that bike lanes do not actually help reduce the amount of crashes with bikes
because even if you're in a bike lane, cars still have to cross it to get to parking lots or make
turns, which is when accidents can happen. So what is the point of having bike lanes does it
really have any benefit? This will be explained in the next slide.
11. Do Bike Lanes Actually Save People?
So some people say they are safe and others say they are less because they can still crash into them easily when turning
into a parking lot which is how most accidents happen. But others believe it is safer because it gives space for bikers and
cars both make sense in my opinion but lets get down to the facts which is really safer and how can we make our
community a safer place? The design of the bike lang really matters, the location really matters, and how educated the
drivers are about sharing the road so really there isnt a yes or no answer but with that being said we should still
examine the area and see if it would be helpful to put bike lanes there. So I still think bike lanes can be really handy in
most cases except for neer parking lots so just dont put it neer turns and parking lots.

So to end this off we have learned so much and if you are still hesitating on if we should add bike lanes
THEN STOP! The sooner we add those bike lanes the faster we can make our world and our community a
better place. Who knows an accident could happen this week so let’s do this as soon as possible because we
don't know when the next accident will be. Lets make our community more enjoyable, more friendly, more
welcoming, more safe, and put less pollution in our area all of this can be done if we just add bike lanes!
