I Re-imagine™ SEE: Angela Morgan on
Courageous Determination
Angela Morgan has always had a strong passion for food safety. When she studied food science,
packaging science and microbiology at Penn State, she worked in a microbiology lab where she was
“immediately hooked.” Food safety has continued to be a focus throughout her career at Campbell’s
Soup Company, Turkey Hill and now at Sealed Air.
As a Senior Microbiologist on the Customer Innovation team in Food Care R&D, Angela is
committed to extending the shelf life of products, maintaining high quality foods, and reducing
foodborne illnesses – and thanks to her Courageous Determination, she has utilized her
multidisciplinary background to deliver on those objectives. Her ultimate goal is to develop the best
products to better serve her clients and ultimately the customers at the end of the line. Thinking
above and beyond the immediate project and products she is developing, Angela sees her work as
helping to reduce overall consumer waste.
“As the shelf life of a product increases, people are less likely to throw it away,” Angela said during
an interview with Weber Shandwick. Ultimately, she said, she is “interested in using innovation to
serve humanity through technology.”
This is no silo-ed effort. Angela works with a large team of about 20 other members that focus on
shrink product bags and case-ready products. With varying backgrounds and access to different
departments and skill sets, Angela has been able to get a holistic perspective and diverse opinions
to address some of the world’s leading causes of foodborne illnesses, waste management, and
much more.
2. When asked why she decided to work with Sealed Air almost a year ago, she associated that choice
with the ability to collaborate and think on multiple levels to drive change and push for high quality
products.
“I was offered opportunities to manage pathogen labs or work in product development for other food
or packaging companies,” Angela said, but only Sealed Air offered her the opportunity to utilize all
her areas of expertise. With Diversey Care’s focus on sanitation and cleaning, Product Care’s focus
on protective packaging, and Food Care’s focus on the food and package interaction, Angela is able
to work across the fields of food science, packaging science and microbiology. “Sealed Air felt like
the perfect fit! The opportunity to work on cross functional teams with other divisions was
appealing. I felt I could use my background and have a longer career doing the things I love; I
wouldn’t do just one thing I related to my education.”
Angela believes that her job and Sealed Air in general challenges her regularly to figure out the
solutions to customer’s needs and the world’s problems.
“Sealed Air has a large impact on society,” Angela said. “The food system is something that we all
need to survive every day and our country believes that our food is going to be safe and they trust in
us to deliver on that. I just want to be a part of it.”
Angela’s passion for the wellbeing of others goes beyond her work as well. Angela is the co-lead of
the WIN Employee Resource Group (ERG) in Duncan, South Carolina, and she also serves on
Duncan’s Wellness Team, where she tries to inspire people to walk more and be more active in their
daily lives. While she feels her team might not be on the winning end of this company-wide
competition, she does believe they should get points for best team name— Cirque du Sore Legs.
While things are heating up in the lab and in the walking competition, we wish Angela the best in her
latest and upcoming endeavors and thank her for living out Courageous Determination in and out of
Sealed Air.
