RECOMMENDATION LETTER
for Mr. Andrii Sofiienko (Ph.D.)
Dear Selection Committee,
I am writing this letter to give my highest possible recommendation for Mr. Sofiienko. I
know Mr. Sofiienko because he performed dissertation work in my laboratory in the period of
2005-2010, during the postgraduate study at the Experimental Physics Department of Physics
Department Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His work is devoted to theoretical
and experimental studies of luminescence and conductivity of the wide-gap semiconductor ZnSe
at photo- and X-ray radiation.
While working on his dissertation Mr. Sofiienko proved himself initiative and independent
scientist and experienced experimenter, and he is able to solve complex scientific problems. All
experimental studies Mr. Sofiienko planned and carried out independently. Mr. Sofiienko has
operational experience with vacuum systems, analog amplifiers, measurement sensors and
systems, diffractometers, radiation detectors (radiation of all type). He quickly mastered the new
equipment and techniques.
Dissertation of Mr. Sofiienko is notable for original theoretical solutions of many complex
tasks connected with the generation and charge transport in wide-gap semiconductors at
registration of X-ray radiation. The results of work are of great importance for practical
developments of advanced radiation detectors, which can be used at high temperatures and high
dose rate. The results of his researches are stated in the publications in scientific international
journals and stated on the international conferences and had many positive responses. This
illustrates his high level of motivation.
In summary, Mr. Sofiienko is clearly the best young scientist with which I have worked
with in the last 10 years. I think he would be an outstanding asset to your program. I give him
my highest recommendation.
Sincerely,
Supervisor of studies, Degoda V. Ya.
