Mitchell County Schools Food Delivery Protocol
Home Delivery Routes:
● Verify that the landowner/homeowner has granted permission for school
representatives to deliver food to the address.
● Acknowledge with the resident an approximate arrival time for food delivery.
● Upon arrival at the address, sound your horn. This is two fold. It lets the resident
know that you have arrived, and it will also awaken any dogs on the property that
approach the vehicle.
● If there are dogs present, do not exit the vehicle. Allow the resident to come to
the vehicle to receive the food package. If the resident does not come out of the
house, do not leave the bag because the food is likely to spoil before the resident
returns. Place a letter (see attached) in the mailbox indicating that you came by
today and no one was home. Report the absence of the resident to a school
representative so that a communication can be made to the family.
● When you present the food bag stay as many feet apart as you can and hand the
bag off quickly and back away. Limit your contact.
● Any safety concerns that you encounter as you make your stops, please
document this concern and report it to one the School Resource Officers.
Currently SROs are making deliveries. This notification would be in the event that
another school representative had to make deliveries and encountered an unsafe
situation. If the school representative did not feel safe upon arrival, they should
leave the property without making the delivery.
● Student support staff, counselors, and office staff will make contact weekly with
the families who receive food delivery, to determine if the families still are in need
of food and that all are well. This is to keep staff from being infected from
Covid-19.
● As more confirmed cases evolve, the route system needs to be re-evaluated for
the risks of exposure to both the families and the school representatives.
