1. Adecco Children‟s Career Survey 2015
Doctor remains the top career choice for
children living in Vietnam

2. Findings from the annual Children‟s Career
Survey 2015 by Adecco Vietnam
The fourth annual “Adecco Children‟s Career Survey” in Vietnam
has revealed that becoming a Doctor is still the top choice –
similar to results from the same survey conducted in Thailand.
The survey also shows that 85% of the young respondents
believe it is more important to spend time with family than to
make lots of money – proof that our children do care a lot.
1. What do you want to be when you grow up? Why have you
chosen this and how much do you expect to earn?
2. What is the best/coolest job that you can think of?
3. If you were the Prime Minister of Vietnam, what are the first
three things you would do?
4. What is more important – making a lot of money or spending
time with your family?
5. What is the best/most enjoyable thing to do on weekends?
The findings, although often humorous in some aspects, do
reveal some valuable insights in how our children view their
world and think about their future.
3. 1. CAREER CHOICE IS ALL ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE IN NEED
Nearly half of the surveyed children stated that they want to become a doctor when they grow up,
showing that our children start thinking about good career choices at an early age. Those wanting to be a
doctor had monthly salary expectations ranging from 1 million VND right up to 100 million VND. Other
children aspire to become Policeman, Famous MC, Celebrity, Model and Athlete – with one young boy
wishes to become a „Superhero‟ when he grows up and states that salary is “not a big issue, fighting bad
people is more important.”
This is also the first time in any of the Adecco Vietnam‟s Children Career Survey that becoming a chef has
shown up as the top career choice. Although often humorous in some of its findings, the survey shows a
serious side with many children wanting to support people in need when they grow up, regardless of their
career choices.
Top 6 Career choices:
1. Doctor
2. Policeman
3. Singer
4. Engineer
5. Teacher
6. Chef
4. 2. CHILDREN LOVE TO EXPLORE THE WORLD
Another interesting finding from this year‟s survey is
how children are showing a more adventurous side
when picking out the best/coolest job. With
Astronaut and Pilot coming up closely after Doctor,
many children expressed their wish to explore the
world and discover new things.
This is again reflected when many stated they would
love to travel and live in other countries such as USA,
Japan, UK, France and South Korea when they are
older.
Top 5 coolest job:
1. Doctor
2. Astronaut
3. Pilot
4. Singer
5. CEO
3. AND THEY DO CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENES IN THEIR SOCIETY
While becoming the Prime Minister of Vietnam
may be quite a daunting task for many adults,
clearly it can be quite fun for the children
participating in this survey. When asked about
the top three things they would do if they were
fortunate enough to become the PM of Vietnam,
the answers they gave are both enlightening
and amusing. The responses also show how
observant they are of their surrounding world. In
2014, domestic violence has been a
much-discussed topic with prevention
measures implemented by the government. It is
not surprising to find in many cases the young
future leaders make it their priority to put an end
to domestic violence completely.
If children became Prime Minister of
Vietnam, they would:
- Help poor people and orphans
- Make Vietnam strong and prosperous
- End domestic violence
- Limit school to two days/week
5. 4. FAMILY HOLDS A SPECIAL IN THEIR HEARTS AND MIND
An important part of the survey is the question “What is more important – making a lot of money or
spending time with family?” to which an encouraging 85% chose family over money. Some of their
heart-warming reasons are:
- Money cannot solve all my problems
- My family can support me during tough times
- Money can give me a good lifestyle, but without my family, I‟ll be very lonely.
However, the minority 15% who chose money has their own family‟s interest at heart:
- I need to make a lot of money to provide for my family
- I want to pay off my family‟s debt
- With more money I can better support my family and help other poor people.
Even for their best/most enjoyable weekend activities, the respondents like spending time with their
friends/families and exploring new places.
This is the fourth year which Adecco Vietnam has conducted this survey which gives an insight into what
the Vietnamese workforce of tomorrow thinks about world they live in and their role in the future.
Nicola Connolly, General Director of Adecco Vietnam, commented, “Over the past four years, we have
seen the responses becoming more interesting and insightful whilst still demonstrating the importance
of family. It is clear that our children are observant of the world around them and use this information to
plan their own future – and if this survey could be an indication of how the Vietnamese business leaders
of tomorrow will be, then we are all heading to a promising future!”
