The presentation deals with the adverse effect of climate change on Phillippines. I have also taken into consideration the waste recovery methods and the list of eco labels used by the country.

Impact of climate change on phillipines
1. Philippines
1
Sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the
Western Pacific ocean experiencing a tropical maritime
climate that is usually hot and humid with temperatures
varying from 70ᵒF to 90ᵒF.
2. Culture, Economic Indicators and Trade
The population of Philippines is around 100,981,437 (2015 census) with Manila
as their capital and English and Filipino as their official languages. There is a
democratic government currently in Philippines.
The GDP is 272.1 billion USD and GNP is 771.3 billion PPP dollars. The inflation
rate was 3.3% year on year in February 2017.
The current unemployment rate is 6.6% in the first quarter of 2017. The
average price of gasoline is $ 0.89/liter (as of March 2017).
The top 5 trade partners are Japan (20.7%), United States (15.4%), Hong Kong
(11.7%), China (11%) and Singapore (6.6%). The major import goods being
Electrical machinery followed by computers and oil. The major export goods
being Electrical machinery followed by computers and wood.
The Filipinos are ranked the Highest SELFIE takers in the world according to
the Time magazine in 2014.

3. Energy mix in Philippines
The energy consumption is around 30.2
Mtoe (million tons of oil equivalent).
Electricity consumption was 64.52 TWh
(Terawatt hour) out of which 66% was
generated from fossil fuels, 21% from
hydroelectric plants and 13% from
other renewable resources like
geothermal, solar and wind energy.
The price of gasoline on an average
between December 2016 and March
2017 has been $ 0.89/liter. With a
minimum value of $0.83/liter in
December to a maximum value of $
0.96/liter.

4. Climate variation
The climate variation does pose a major threat to Philippines as it is an
island nation which has been hit by 5 typhoons since 2006. The recent
storms like the Typhoon Haiyan and Typhoon Yolanda which have taken
6300 lives and caused the Philippine government nearly 2 billion dollars.
According to the Global Climate Rise Index 2015, Philippines is raked 1st in
the list of countries to be most affected by climate change. The reason
being the constant rise in the Sea-surface temperature. Initially the surface
temperature resulted in evaporation of water hence forming of rain clouds.
Due to climate change, this process has accelerated resulting in frequent
storms and typhoons.

5. Eco labels and Energy labels
There are around 20 eco-labels that are
issued in Philippines. Among these the
Green choice: Philippines is managed
by the Philippine center for
Environmental Protection and
Sustainable Development Inc. (PCEPSDI)
which is the only national issued label.
All the other eco labels are authorized
by the global authorities such as Bio
Suisse and Fairtrade.
The energy label varies for refrigerators,
air conditioners, Light bulbs etc. The
major aspects of the label are the
Power consumption, Energy efficiency
ratio (EER), Operation cost computation
and Malaysian Electronic Payment
System (MEPS).

6. EPR requirements
The major industry of Philippines is the electronic industry and therefore
the electronic waste(E-waste) that is generated has been causing major
setbacks to the countries environmental standards. Hence, there was a bill
passed titled ‘ EPR bill on electronic waste’ which got public attention
when it was supported by the major green organizations like Manila-
Greenpeace Philippines and Eco-waste coalition.
The organizations are focusing on the fact that the producers should take
the responsibility of taking back, disposal and final recovery of the
products like mobile phones, computers, television sets etc.
There is a video link that has been posted in the notes section which shows
the complete picture of EPR necessities in Philippines.
