• Douglas MacArthur was a military brat to a
medal of honor recipient, so expectations were
already high.
• He attended West Texas Military Academy and
graduated valedictorian.
• Soon after he attended west point graduating
first of his 93-manned class there as well.

Rise to
Greatness
• After proving himself a good cadet,
MacArthur also proved himself as an
officer in the U.S. Army.
• Becoming the youngest Major general
for his early expeditions in Veracruz
and his efforts in WWI with the
creation of the 42nd Rainbow Division.
• He was the Superintendent of the U.S
Military Academy at West Point
• He was also the one of the only
people given the rank Field Marshal
of the Philippine Army.

The Five Star
General
• MacArthur’s most notable achievement,
however, is being one of only three five-star
generals in U.S. history. Rising to the occasion
to the biggest war the world has ever seen
nonetheless: World War II.
• Even as the most important guy in the Army,
MacArthur was still on the front lines counting
bombers and observing the war.

• MacArthur was eventually relieved from
command after multiple instances of
disobeying the president during the Korean
War. MacArthur wanted the war to grow to
involve all of Asia while Truman wanted a
limited war. So, after controversial
intercepted messaged showed MacArthur
was defying the president, he was released
in 1951 after 52-years of military service.
