RELATED EXPERIENCE
An earlydraft ofa filmscript I wrote reachedthe quarter-finals (top50) inthe Pulsar International Sci-Fi Script Contest of
Spring 2012. At website, http://reelauthors.com/documents/Pulsar-ScreenplayQuarter-Finalists-cycle-end-March31st2012.pdf
is a listing of “Quarter Finalists” for the Pulsar Sci-Fi contest. Myname & script are listed, 8th from page top.
A Creative World Awards screenplay contest judge wrote the followingof mysame earlydraft script :
Judge’s Recommendation: Consider
Basics: Good ; Structure: Good ; Characterization: Good; Dialogue :Good ;
Overall View of Trend & Commercial Potential : Very Good
“The script displays anunderstanding of screenwriting technique and reflects a level of creative development interms of
the storyconcept. The narration is effectivelyconcise, visual, and action-drivenfor the most part...” “The setup in act one
is successful…. “ “… While fulfilling, the finalact of the storyarguablylacks the same comedic approach…” “The script’s
dialogue is craftedwith a level ofstrength inrelationto its operating genre.” “…There is some trulycomical material
present withthe narrative.” “…The concept is unique, original, and marketable as a sci-fi comedy.” “Good job on this
script ! Ireally enjoyed reading it…”
In addition to the above script , completed anadaptation script. Thesescripts I have much revisedandrefined, andthrough
that process learnedmuchabout screenwriting, and screenwriting perspectives & techniques.
There’s alsoa fewtelevisionseries I have in mind. Relatingto one ofthe tvseries I’d like to develop, Mr. Lawrence (Larry)
Carra, who’d wonan Emmy in relation to Producing and Directing a “PulitzerPrize” series for ABC –TV network, and who’d
instructed at Yale School of Drama, and was a longtime headof the Carnegie-MellonDrama Dept, wrote the following :
“Accolades to you for a practical and workable proposal for a tv program…. Your proposal will definitelyprove an
enrichment to the day-by-dayprogramming here in Pittsburgh andshouldprove attractive to the viewer. Yes,
byall means, go withit—Pittsburghneeds such programming.” (A copyof Mr. Carra’s letter is includedinAddendum.)

VIDEO EXPERIENCES
Independently, shoestring-budget music videos I filmed& edited “caused stirs”at Cannes, France MIDEMexhibit area,
MIDEMbeing the largest international music industrymarket-event heldannually(in the same buildings as the CannesFilm
Festival). Myvideos were then featured veryprominentlyonthe official “MIDEM2000” website, for about 9 months, at the
very top of a longinternational list of establishedand emergingmusic acts. (Samples from these demovideos will soonbe on
a Vimeointernet site for viewing uponrequest.) (Also, copyof MIDEM2000 webpage, listing myvideos at top ofinternational
listing, is inAddendum.)
Filmed/edited a “Shadyside Concert” starringPittsburgh Symphony musicians. Also Charlotte Day (who played) hasbeen
guest-soloist withsymphonyorchestras(including London’s) and wasa guest-artist at Royal Academyof Music inEngland.
She’d studiedunder Rubinstein and Serkin, & has taught at Harvard, Carnegie-Mellon, & Duquesne universities. Charlotte
loved myvideoof the concert. She saidmyvideowas, “Amasterpiece!”
Filmed/edited/directed/produced a videofor a church, to portraythe need for a “Building Improvements Program”, and
to promote a “CapitalCampaign” neededto finance it, resultingina 20-minute video. That was shown to various audiences
at the church (of about 15-50 people each) duringweeks preceding an “Annual Meeting” vote. The Boardof Trustees thenalso
requested that I playthe video at the AnnualMeeting itself, just prior to the vote. The video showings got similar reactions:
There were standingovations, long/enthusiastic applause, and much cheering. When the issue was voted-on bythe
congregation(by“secret ballot”), the Program for Improvements (& Capital Campaign) promotedbymyvideowas approved
unanimously! (On FIRST ballot!) This somewhat amazed the Board and long-time churchleaders, whocouldn’t remember
anything near “unanimous approval” “ever” on anyprevious major vote. That persuasive video receivedstanding ovations.
Filmedandedited some experimental videos withspecialeffects. These were thenexhibited intwo somewhat special local
Pittsburghart galleryexhibits: a “Centennial Exhibit” of Undercroft Galleryin Shadyside near Carnegie-MellonUniversity, & in
PittsburghCenter for the Arts (inMellonPark), a “GroupA” regional exhibit entitled “Art Beyond”. For the “Art Beyond”
exhibit, on “opening night”, myvideos were placedto be the first “art” seen whenentering.
Filmedandedited a couple of videos in connectionwiththe History andLandmarks Foundation of Pittsburgh anda Carnegie-
MellonUniversityarts festival: One of these videos explored a mural backing a bust of William Mellon, a founder of the
Graduate School of Businessat CMU, in the main entrance lobbyof the Businessbuildingon campus. Thismural had been
created by Robert Lepper, a mentor of Andy Warhol, who hadbeena speaker at Warhol’s memorial ceremony. This video
usedspecialeffects to reveal various subtle, near invisible aspects of the mural. Both videos were verywell received.
I produced/directed/filmed/edited anupdatedversionof a classic movie scene & sequence to “demo” (logistically&
dramaticallydifficult) , budgeted4 days to filmit, and infact completed filming withinthe 4 days I’dscheduled. Produced on
shoestring budget. Various people, including anart teacher andfather of anOscar-winner, have compared thisresulting
“demo” favorably, invarious aspects, to the same scenes ina filmwhichwona “Best Picture” Oscar! To have a shoestring-
budget “demo” compared, at all, to a famous sequence from a Best Picture Oscar-winning filmis a bit of anaccomplishment,
I’d think. I was toldthat an Off-Broadwayactresscommented that it was “…movie quality”. Audiences at small screenings
have watchedit quite attentively, seemedgrippedthroughout, and were quite impressed. The acting (oflocal volunteers)
received manyenthusiastic compliments, and all the local volunteers who appear in it were quite proud ofit. (Thisvideo
“demo” scene will soonbe ona Vimeo internet site for viewing uponrequest.)
Much camera anddigital editingexperience, including numerous “live” shoots.
Have studiedcamerawork, directing, editing, working with actors, and acting, as well as regardingscreenwriting.

“Directed” call-in talk-show (selectingallshots for broadcast “live” over Pittsburgh’s cable system) and stationemployees were
impressedwiththe possibly unprecedented large number of call-ins received from viewers during that episode/show.
