Mick Jagger Interview
1. Mick-Whai"s your name'!
AJ-AJ Webaman'!
Peel.:._AJ AJ AJ AJ Weatherman ... you never heard of
l11m'!
Mick-No.
Chuck-Didn"t you ever hear of him? He goes thru
Dylan's garbage all the time.
AJ-1 don't do it all the time-actually the whole
garh:1ge pick-up at Dylan's took approximately ...
Mick-You just do it part time.
AJ-lt took maybe 5 hours.
Mick-ll's just a hobby?
Al-Right Right. Instead of collecting stamps or coins I
collect garbage. Well. anyway. we feel that the main
problem of the world-I hate to talk about problems on a
Friday night- is that of distribution. There are a lot of
people around who have more than t~ey can use in a
lifetime hut there are many more people who don't have
;mything.
Mick-Garbage! Some people have more garbage than
0 1her people. _ .
Al-Right Right. but the green garbage -0r the quid
garbage whatever you want to call it.
Mick-Garbage. its all garbage.
AJ-We'd like to see it a little more equally distributed.
AJ-No I want to see other peop e get tbear shire.
Mick-He wants his share of garbage.
AJ-1 want to see oppressed people get their share of
garbage.
Mick-I agree, everyone should have garbage.
Al-Then why the fuck don't you do something about
it'!
Peel-AH ah did you hear they tried to ban my record?
By the way I'm not responsibl~ for ~nything that AJ _says.
(Mick is about to get up and split but Peel convmces
him to stay to hear bis song).
Peel-I have a song here about you-"Altamont
Altamont Altamont I You can't always get what you want
...etc.
Peel went on with his song for about 15 .fuckin
minutes-[ should have interrupte4 the mother and got
hack to talkin with Mick-but by the time he finished
Jagger got up and walked into the studio wit_h a dis~usted
look on his face. He told one of the recordmg engineers
that he thought Dav'd Peel was "crazy" and he tossed
Dave's records on the.floor. He split right after that.
Mick-We'll start a new breed of them in England-
Anglo-Amerikan roaches.
Peel-The American Breed hits Liverpool, yeah. Mick
do you have my records?
Mick-No I don't think I do.
(Peel gets up and hands Jagger 2 of bis records and some
promo material.)
Al-Did you ever hear anything about the Rock
Liberation Front?
Mick-No.
Al-Well we think that rock music has become very
corrupt and ugly and something .
Mick-So do I.
Al-And something has to be done so we've been
holding demonstrations . . .
Mick-Yeah I heard about them . ..
AJ-In front of Dylan's hous~we had a birthday party
'or him and Paul McCartneys . . .
Mick-I can see your point of view cause that's exactly
what it is-ugly and co~·rupt .. .
AJ-We feel that the problem is ...
