Significance of
Building a Masjid
The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “When a man dies,
his deeds come to an end except for
three things: Sadaqah Jariyah
(continuing charity), knowledge which
is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant
who prays for him” [Muslim]. Building a
masjid is a wonderful act of Sadaqah
Jariyah! The reward for building a masjid
is endless, and as long as people are
using the masjid you’ve helped build
then you will continue to receive rewards
from Allah (SWT) even in the Hereafter.
Additionally, Uthman ibn Affan reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever
builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will
build for him a house like it in Paradise.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 450, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 533)
This hadith shows the extent to the
significance, building a masjid has, in the
eyes of Allah SWT.
Introduction
A masjid is a place of worship for Muslims,
and it is typically used for daily prayers,
and special events such as Eid al-Fitr and
Eid al-Adha. Masjids also serve as
community centres, where Muslims can
gather for social and educational
activities. Many communities living in
remote, rural areas lack adequate Masajid
and are in desperate need of our help.
AWF has identified the Masjid Project as
one with high importance and aims to
maximise the number of masjids rebuilt,
in order to restore the spiritual, social, and
cultural hubs for the Muslim population
around the world.

Project Implementation
Objectives
The first and most important objective is to provide an adequate spiritual centre for the
Muslim community. Masjids are a place where people can come together to pray and
learn about Islam. This sense of community and belonging can be especially important
in times of stress or hardship, as it provides support and a sense of security. Having a
masjid with reasonable facilities will be highly beneficial.
In addition to its spiritual role, a masjid can also serve as a community centre. Masjids
offer educational programs, social services, and other activities that enable the wider
community to gain knowledge about Islam and strengthen their faith. For this reason,
Mufti Abdul Wahab has always paid special attention to proposals or requests regarding
rebuilding a Masjid.
Furthermore, masjids also serve as a source of civic engagement. Masjids can be a
platform for community organizing and can provide opportunities for people to get
involved in issues that affect their local area and society at large.

STEP ONE
An in-depth survey of
the area is conducted
with the involvement of
the community
members to find a
location where a masjid
is needed the most.
STEP TWO
A project manager is
appointed, who hires a
team of experts and
supervises the tasks and
ensures that funds are
utilised according to the
plan. Building materials
are then purchased and
work is started as soon as
possible.
STEP THREE
Monitoring teams
regularly visit and
evaluate the quality of
the building work. The
construction work is
completed in
approximately 11-months.
