production was successful in recreating the set and
ambiance of the original 1949 production of Arthur
Miller’s play.

 Hoffman’s performance as a salesman-on-the-edge
was characterized as “deeply thoughtful,” within a
lyric, sparse construct that delineated the failings of
the American Dream. The reviewer spoke of
Hoffman, as well as the supporting cast members, as
making the viewer listen anew to familiar lines.
Hoffman was described as particularly successful in
portraying the underlying uncertainty in his character,
with flashes of self doubt appearing at just the
moment he is trying to close a sale through a potent
brand of “all-American optimism.”
