About
Adriana is a research scientist passionate about genomics and its applications in health and forestry. She completed her Honours BSc in Colombia, and her MSc Technology and Public Policy in Winnipeg. After surviving three winters in Manitoba, she went to UBC and is currently a PhD candidate in Botany. For her PhD project, she is using whole genomes – all the DNA – of trees to understand how they adapt and survive in different environments. Last summer, with the support of the Swiss Embassy in USA (ThinkSwiss), she was a visiting researcher at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) where she implemented bioinformatics tools initially developed for human data.
