Android is an open source mobile operating system developed by Google that is based on the Linux kernel. It is the most widely used mobile operating system globally. iOS is a proprietary mobile operating system created by Apple exclusively for its hardware like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It is the second most popular mobile operating system. Android supports a wide range of devices and services while iOS only supports Apple devices and has limited availability. In terms of development, iOS is more efficient as it requires fewer programming languages than Android, but Android has better availability and adoption rates due to its wide device support.
2. Mobile Operating systems
Mobile Operating System (OS) is basically a operating
system which controls our Smartphone , tablets, or other
mobile devices.
3. ANDROID
Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google. Initially developed by Android Inc.,
which Google bought in 2005. It is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open
source software, and is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such
as smartphones and tablets.
Android is written in Java, C, C++, XML, Assembly language, Python, Shell script, Go, Make and D.
Android operating system has since gone through multiple major releases, with the current version
being 9 "Pie", released in August 2018.
The core Android source code is known as Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and is primarily
licensed under the Apache License.
Android has been the best-selling OS worldwide on smartphones since 2011 and on tablets since
2013. As of May 2017, it has over two billion monthly active users, the largest installed base of any
operating system, and as of December 2018, the Google Play store features over 2.6 million apps.
4. iOS
iOS (formerly iPhone OS) is a mobile operating system created and developed by Apple Inc. exclusively
for its hardware. It is the operating system that presently powers many of the company's mobile
devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
It is the second most popular mobile operating system globally after Android.
iOS is written in C, C++, Objective-C and Swift languages.
Every year new version of iOS are released and the latest version is iOS 12 which was released on
September 17, 2018.
iOS is a closed source project i.e, we cannot find the source code of it.
5. Comparison Of iOS and Android
Usage :
In terms of usage android comes out to be more successful than iOS due to wide range
of applications of android OS. Apple has the limited number of devices (iPhone/iPod/iPad),
which run iOS, whereas android-powered devices have a wide range of systems that
operate on devices.
Availability and Services :
In terms of availability and services also we can find android to be more successful as there
are lots of devices which use android OS and we can find its services even in small cities and
towns whereas iOS OS has limited use and its services can only be found in big cities.
Development :
In terms of development iOS comes out to be more efficient as it requires lesser number of
languages for iOS development as compared to android.
Security :
In terms of security, iOS is much better than android. iOS is a closed source which does not
provide their source code to developers but android is open source which provide their
original source code to developer and this can be the main reason why hacker choose
android users as victim.
