It is my pleasure to write this recommendation letter for my MS student Mr. Abdulrahman Awad
Al-Omari. Mr. Al-Omari has worked under my guidance for about 1 year, performing a
research project in experimental fluid mechanics. He is working on taking high-speed video
images of the motion of helical objects falling in a liquid tank. He is specifically investigating
how the drag and lift on a helix-like solid object imparts torque and induces rotation of the
object. Such rotations may effect the stability and overall hydrodynamic forces on such
complicated objects. To do this he is using state-of-the-art high-speed video cameras, which he
has quickly learned how to use and successfully applied to extract detailed trajectories for a
variety of weights and liquid viscosities. He is making good progress on his experiments and on
the data reduction and should finish his Master’s thesis this semester.
Abdulrahman is an intelligent your man who has an easygoing, can-do personality and is always
a pleasure to interact with. He is very enthusiastic about his experimental project and quite self-
motivated. He comes up with novel ideas all the time and rapidly implements them in the
laboratory, even if it takes working through the night. He also interacts very well with the other
students and researchers in my laboratory.
I therefore highly recommend Mr. Al-Omari for an Engineering position at your company.
