  1. 1. Mayer Shasthya A Project to Address Post Partum Haemorrhage (PPH) & Eclampsia in Bangladesh

Current situation of Bangladesh <ul><li>In Bangladesh, Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is very high (2.9 per thousand live births) </li></ul><ul><li>Post Partum Haemorrhage & Eclampsia is the most common cause of maternal mortality and accounts for 29% due to PPH & 24% of Eclampsia. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Current situation of Bangladesh cont… <ul><li>Eighteen percents of births are attended by medically trained personnel </li></ul><ul><li>Eighty five percents of births take place at home. </li></ul><ul><li>Eighty percents of maternal deaths occur during home delivery. </li></ul>

Mayer Shasthya Project <ul><li>Mayer Shasthya is a community based project to prevent PPH & Eclampsia and reduce morbidity and mortality from PPH & Eclampsia in intervention areas </li></ul><ul><li>Mayer Shasthya will implement the comprehensive continuum of care which includes prevention, identification and management of PPH & Eclampsia </li></ul><ul><li>The project started on April, 2009 </li></ul>

Mayer Shasthya Project cont… <ul><li>The project is funded by Pathfinder International </li></ul><ul><li>Mayer Shasthya project is implemented by Swanirvar Bangladesh </li></ul><ul><li>Partners of the project are Government of Bangladesh and Private Health Facility </li></ul><ul><li>The project is implemented in Karimgonj and Tarail upazila of Kishoregonj district & covered a total number of 219 villages, 17 unions under 02 Upazilas with 55,011 eligible couples and 316,096 populations. </li></ul>

Mayer Shasthya Project activities <ul><li>Registration of all pregnant women in the project area </li></ul><ul><li>Distribution of PPH bag containing Misoprostol tablets (2 tab-200 microgram in each.), blood measuring mat, surgical hand gloves and delivery kit to each pregnant women after 28 weeks of pregnancy </li></ul>Picture: Field worker is distributing the PPH bag
